I've read the past few pages and have not been able to find the answer to a few questions. Would someone hired in the next few months at QX ever have a chance of flying the jet or would they be stuck on the Q? What is the current reserve time on the Q? Upgrade time? Thanks

I was called by the recruiter few weeks ago saying that they are only hiring into the Dash. YMMV

We should start hiring into the jet at some point in the next month or so, but I have no clue beyond that.

Reserve time on the Q depends completely on what base you're in, and how many new pilots we're failing to attract. At some of the smaller bases (GEG, BOI, MFR), you can probably get a line within a couple of months, but PDX and SEA can be somewhere past 12 months of reserve.

Upgrade times had been just under the three year mark on the Q (again, for the junior bases), but we've recently parked two airplanes and cancelled some upgrade classes, so I'm not completely sure where the upgrade time sits right now.

FWIW, it took me 12 months as an FO in PDX to get off reserve. That was when hiring wasn't an issue and they could fill any class they wanted.

I know an FO in SEA that's been on reserve twenty months or so.

FWIW I was on reserve in BOI for 10 months with only 3 people below me, and months away from getting a line. If hiring has slowed down since then you'll be on reserve indefinitely.

It may have been 10 months then but Boise I was on reserve for one bid and then had a coverage line for a a few months and now holding a line, it's picked up quite a bit. I'd say Boise is 3-4 months off IOE

Reserve time is dropping because we are losing so many pilots. For example, there used to be 65-70 lines in PDX and 95 FOs, now theres only 50 lines and 60 FOs.

I believe the jet new hire classes are spoken for, at least for the rest of the year but I could be wrong. I can't see us taking any more deliveries after the 3rd jet due to Q400 staffing.

As much as I hate to say it, Skywest could very likely get the remaining 10. From a management perspective, it's probably cheaper to give away E175s than to park Q400s and displace crews into the jet costing thousands in new type ratings.

I bet talks are underway now to make that happen. Management will naturally blame the pilots, and release some statement that this will 'position us for growth' in the future.

I'm certain it was no shortsighted decision that the E175s will be sea based. Just in case QX can't staff them, there's two other CPAs there that can.

Confirmed, skywest is negotiating with Alaska to take 10 of Horizon's next deliveries leaving Horizon with only 3 jets until at least 2018 at the earliest. Even with the bonuses first officers are now leaving faster than they can be trained (3 left for Skywest in the last 2 weeks). Cancelled upgrade classes, constant junior manning into days off, and still a shrinking pilot list= more parked airplanes, stagnant seniority list and ultimate failure as a company, meanwhile Skywest countinous to expand into new Alaska markets.
