For real!!!!!!!!

A lot of you need to ask yourself, does it really matter who goes to whatever kiddie table. (Yea I am at the kiddie table too).

I think a lot of peps on here dog on those that go to places like mesa (dash8)that have short upgrade time because they are scarred to take a gamble on a place that might hurt their feelings.

All of the experienced major airline pilots I know say, "it dosent maTter what regional you work for, just accecpt the first job you are offered and do your time and get out!"

So who cares if Mesa sux. The only legit reason I have seen on this siite is that the upgrade is forever in the jet, what about the dash? I say who cares!!!!!! if u can be a captn in less than a year when u get 1500 that is great!!!!!

I say, SWA here I come.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will see ya when I am on the hiring board!! Ha ha ha!!!

Yea mesa still sux???????

Besides, Slice dear, you're not arrogant enough to be one of them.
Stick to being a pilot.

Now, if you want to be a fireman........
FDNY doesn't pay much better although I'd love to have their schedules! Most guys on the job(fire and police) I know work elsewhere at least on some of their days off to supplement their sh!tty income. Suffolk County PD on the other hand...you start at 60K and are over 100K, not including OT and night differential, by year 5. They're having a test this Spring.

I'm a firefighter...you're right, the schedules are sweet. There's a place near my city that has a 2-on, 6-off schedule (granted the 2 on are 48hrs in a row, but you're paid to sleep and goof off half of the time)...it was a great supplement to my pilot income, and the fire service is the best job in the world (or maybe second best)...the pay ins't that bad either if you have your paramedic cert.

This one of the most ridiculous posts I may have ever read. How long have you been flying for????????????? You really don't know much at all...... If you think you are going to get a job at mesa upgrade in a year get your golden 1000, or 1300pic and move on you are dreaming, and are extremely naive. There thousands upon thousands of more qualified pilots than you that have alot more connections than you that can not get interviews. You might end up like the few guys that I have talked too who thought just like until they got violated, you knwo what that looks like on your record?????????????.
.and to answer your question yes mesa does "sux"

Here were the mileposts for me:

Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT): 206.5
Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals (IFF): 20.9
F-15E Formal Training Unit (FTU): 79.2
Mission Qualification Training (MQT): 20.2

Total: 326.8

So, by comparison, we're talking about 206.5 to get what equates to a Comm/Multi/Instrument. The IFF and FTU basically equate to your company's initial training and a type rating there at 100.1 additional hours. The MQT is essentially the equivalent to IOE at an airline for an additional 20 hours.

So, there you have it...qualified to fly as a wingman (e.g first officer) at about 325 hours. It's at least another 300 hours to qualify for your upgrade to flight lead.

This doesn't compare hour-for-hour to civilian training...a large part of the civilian training is spent converting avgas to noise straight-and-level on a victor airway. Most of that military training is pretty intense, with an opportunity to wash out for good on almost every hop.

The 300 hour military guy has to be a far better pilot then a wet-commercial civilian because of all the extra hoops he has had jump through...simply more training. The civilian will catch up with experience, and a few years after the military guy leaves military flying for good, both pilots are probably the same in an airline cockpit (on average).

Ok lets not get out of hand "Far better pilot" The training may have been better but its up to the individual............

Are you on the dash? If so you can gut it out, get your PIC and move on. I don't too much issue with turbo-prop pilots who are willing to get abused for PIC, that's the way it's always been.

You're taking some risk that you will be able to get on at SWA, they seem to interview 20 and hire 3...I know LOT'S of mesa captains with a 73 type and a rejection letter from SWA

Most of the pilots out there realize that they stand a good chance of spending a LONG time at a regional...and mesa is NOT the place for that!

I'm talking about the 300 hour guys.

There are plenty of awesome civlian pilots, but the civilian screening system (your parent's credit rating) leaves something to be desired. It is almost impossible for a crappy pilot to get through military training..they may go down hill later in life, but at one point they had the skills...

Fow what it's worth I was medically DQed from military flying (before PRK )...I saw the military system up close and then did the civilian route, so I can comment objectively.
