Probably not for the next 2-5 years, when the Q FO's that were just hired reach upgrade.

Got an interview invite from them to add to my collection (Eagle and SkyWest). Thinking of taking my FAA controller retirement and returning to flying. Am I nuts?

Yes, you are!

Yes hiring to all certificates. No. You won't get Denver for quite some time. Base is shrinking. They tell you straight out in the interview that if you're coming for the Denver base, you simply won't get it. (But good chance of ORD as AA flying ramps up.)

As for your sanity, I can not comment.

The way I see it, air traffic got me home every night for the last 22 years. Now that the kids are grown and my annuity pays the bills, why not go fly? If I loose my medical or it ceases to be fun... I'm done. It seems it would stop being fun a lot faster if there was commuting involved. I guess I will keep collecting controller pay until the right opportunity comes along or the FAA forces me out at 56.

It is interesting how many former regional pilots we have at the center now. I can think of 6 off hand that I know personally. That doesn't count the dozens that went through (insert big name university's) flight program only to give it all up for 12k a month secure and being home every day.

Kzo- You did it the right way. If you keep priorities straight this is a great job. I say do it.

He'd be a scumbag to investors if he wasn't putting the stockholder's first.

A former colleague of mine went from working KZDV to flying with me when I was at great lakes. You're going to get your retirement money anyway - I'd say go for it. A little extra cash on the retirement and some flying.

He just went to skywest and is loving it - you may already know who i'm talking about.

That being said - DEN won't happen for a while....at least at RAH.

Good advice. The Republic side of the house has been a good place to fly. You'll make good money eventually doing something you're clearly interested in and passionate about. Ignore the majority of malcontents on this forum and go do what you want to do. Despite what you read here all the regionals are the same in the end. My only advice would be to pick one that has a base where you want to live and accept that the company may not be around for the remainder of your second career. Good luck.

Yep, I know who you are talking about. We were in the same area at ZDV - good guy.
