as a scheduling guy (one of the few we have left), the goal is to maximize block and credit across the board. Pre-117 on the CHQ side most bases were closer to 5:00 hours a day on average. After 117 that dropped to 4:15. Days off plunged. I switched to S5 the first chance I have had and am back up to 16 this month at 90 hours. (Though I bid for 78) Pretty decent seniority in base. This place struggles because of the basing structure. Too many bases and the set up worked before 117. Now it's all a mess and we're handicapped because of a pretty big split in the group. There are probably close to 50% of the guys/gals here that love their outstation bases because they live there and have a fear of commuting. The other 50% have had their base closed or have commuted since they started. Those people HATE outstations. I think we're going to have to have a talk as a pilot group about what's best for the group vs ourselves. Only way to do that is run the numbers. (More personal preference is not to force anyone out, just not replace them when they leave.) Only one thing I have ever been told here that has stayed true is don't come here for bases. None of them are "safe".

If anyone on here thinks it's stupid for someone to go to republic versus a "industry leading" regional, that's just pure stupidity. Being on the front end of a hiring wave of 53 airplanes versus going to the bottom of an "industry leading" seniority list is everything. I'd go to republic in a heart beat over any other regional right now if I were applying.
i see that you have never talked to anyone at another regional, or seen any other contract. gary is that you?

Nope, not at all. I enjoy MANY things. Only thing is that I don't KID myself into believing things. Like pretending that it's okay to be tdy'd for a month just because that particular city has "great museums". I love my wife, kids, God....I don't love airplanes or this job; anyone that does is the one with the narrow mind.

So then what will you do when you children are grown and live in a different city than you do? I was defending you earlier because you hold your family life to a high importance. I don't "pretend" at all to like being on the road for a month and seeing great cities. It is what I have always wanted to do and for me is just as important as being home when my children were there. Believe it or not, once you get your time at the regional s there is a whole world of aviation that opens up for you. I am very fortunate to have a job that fits my lifestyle so well. However, I would have never even applied for this job had I been as close minded as you. BTW, if you don't love airplanes or your job what the hell are you doing there? There are better ways to make a living that would afford you much more time at home.

When my kids are grown, the"magic" is over. I'm not one(nor is my wife) where we will control their every move til they're 30(and in turn make them dependent on us as is the norm these days). When my kids are done with college, and the girls are wed, it's back to one on one time with the wife. As for now, I NEED to be with them as much as possible.
I don't LOVE any non-human(other than God, as previously stated). I fly airplanes because I was lured into it unexpectedly and ignorantly back in 1994. Of those twenty years, 11 plus have been as a professional pilot and(as are others), I'm in way too deep to get out.

I've got zero problem with him. He's running a company. You should be thankful that you have a job. Get your time and GTFO. Best advice I can give.

And his shareholders should just be grateful that he can't bid on new flying because he can't staff new flying, right? If he wanted to, he could offer a TRUE industry-leading contract and poach junior F/O's from regionals everywhere.

Looks like his hubris has inspired some of our Captains to buy into his crapola. Congrats, Loon - you wear your screen name well.
