New hires only? For example an FO on the 145 after 2 years wants to move to the 170, does he have to sign a 2 year agreement?

Presumably new hires in class will be awarded different equipment. Does 1/2 the class sign the document and the other 1/2 doesn't? Seems unusual.

I apologize if my word tone sounded condescending, it wasn't my intention but I could see how that could be interpreted that way. I was just supporting a guy who I felt was attacked needlessly for expressing an opinion.

Rah has had such a hard time attracting pilots on the Q that they just recently gave $10k signing bonuses to a Q class.

The real problem at RAH is the senior staff in the HR department. It has been the same managers in there for years and they operate under the assumption that there is a never ending supply of pilots. That is why RAH thinks it doesn't have to pay pilots anything and pilots will be begging for jobs from HR. Now instead of coming to the realization of the current pilot supply and compensation package that RAH has, management chooses to chase pilots down for reimbursement of the training contract. HR doesn't understand how poor the working conditions are and they continue to lie to prospective new hires about getting a contract soon.

Uh... Ok...

To all you potential new hires:

Typically when you accept a class you know already which airplane and certificate you will be on. But not always. They do bait and switch every once in a while. A whole class of YX 170 got told they would be on the Q400 instead. No one came back after lunch. Wouldn't put it past them to try the switcharoo again though.

If you accept a class here you better be happy on that airplane / certificate. You will NEVER be allowed to leave that airplane / certificate unless it is convenient to the company. There are only two ways in which you will get to leave your airplane / certificate.... Upgrade to CA (after 7 miserable years as an FO topped out at $36 an hour after 4 years) or if you get displaced as a result of a base closure (if the company needs you to go to a different airplane) or your airplane gets parked.

I don't understand why anyone would come here when every other regional pays more, treats you better, has shorter upgrade time, and no outstation bases which ruin quality of life for all.

I cannot overstate this. Republic is the worst airline in the entire world. Bryan Bedford is the worst airline manager in history. Avoid RAH like you avoid AIDS.

What is the deal with this crap? Why are they doing this if they need pilots? If i want the 170 i expect the 170 and i would bail BEFORE lunch if i got a hint they were switching airframes.

Since the 170 seems to be the replacement for the 50 seaters i may not have a choice but to "be happy on that airplane" After 7 years as an fo scraping my way to the top of the list i am going to STAY an fo and not restart all over again. 170's probably wont get parked.

Because when other regionals fold for not being able to get pilots. Republic even if it is the worst regional ever will still be around. Republic is bigger than most of the other regionals last time i checked and is wholly owned arent they? pay being treated better shorter upgrade time and oustation basing doesnt mean much if the regional you are at goes tits up. just saying.

if i am around enough flight attendants. that may not be possible. (sarcasm)

Just to show you how bad RAH is and how bad the company treats people, from March of 2012 until the following year, 600 pilots were hired with only a net gain of 40. Being an FO there is a never ending life of poverty. That place will literally suck the life out of you.
Pilots are leaving for all different positions someplace else, not everyone is leaving for a job at a major. Some pursued a job in ATC, others are leaving to fly for a charter op for more than 3 times their earnings as an FO at RAH. The money and quality of life is horrible, RAH knows it, that is why they make you sign the training contract. To them, if you give them 2 years of being an indentured servant for a $$ amount that BB loses in his seat cushions, they could care less about you at that point.

In addition, they are attempting to enforce the two year training contract/promissory note, which amounts to about 2 years and 3 months because it doesn't start at date of hire. It starts at completion of training...IOE
