How long are new hires sitting on reserve?

Is it better to choose Republic proper or Shuttle America?

Upgrades on all aircraft are still in the '07 regime

True that. I've heard all the dirt at RAH. Never PSA lol.

I'm currently at trans-states. Line holder, second year pay. Not bad spot at all, commuting. Won't be upgrade elligable for a year and if we don't grow and our attrition rates stay the same, i'll probably have missed the upgrade boat and get trapped. Kinda looking around just for the hell of it.

Only reason I would be interested in RAH right now is to be GSO bassed as I live ten minutes from GSO and already have a parking pass.

So, I should have asked also: How senior is GSO base, can a new hire hold it?

Oh and is training paid?

Hows attrition? Are people moving on out?

There is definitely a lot of movement right now. Currently we are losing about 40 pilots a month (seems like 65% CAs and 35% FOs) and gaining about 40 FOs a month. So zero growth at the moment, just attrition.

Glancing at the list the most junior FO in GSO doesn't look like he is even out of training yet. Now you might not get it out of the gate but I wouldn't think that it is hard to attain.

Training is paid and you will get a decent bonus check in 2 installments. I am not familiar with when those checks come however. I hear it is pretty heavily taxed but you should get that back come tax season.

Editorial: What makes RAH an undesirable place to work is the management team. The people that run the show either don't know how to do their job or they are to lazy to do it. If you want them to do something for you it better be when their having a good day and you need to hold their hand the whole way through the process. As for the crews, 85% of the people you will work with on a daily bases are great. There are some people that hate the world and you can't wait for the trip to be over, but you'll get that anywhere. Ultimately, get your time and get out. You do not want to be stuck here. It will destroy everything you love about yourself.

In a few months, you'll be really glad you did not go to RAH to be based in GSO.

The company is making money hand over fist. However it is on the backs of the woefully underpaid FOs and FAs.

The only thing holding upgrades back is the lack of FOs to fill the right seats (can't move over if there is nobody to sit next to you). I think that if you are hired on right now your upgrade time will be about 3-4 years depending on aircraft. We do not have any future growth planned because we cannot even staff what we have.

As for the C-series - its anybody's guess. Personally I think BB will try to sell the slots before we get them or he plans to have us fly them point to point in the U.S. for some foreign carrier. Don't plan on ever setting foot in one. Bombardier does not have enough orders, are extraordinarily behind schedule and over budget. All of this is for another thread.

To be completely honest I will be surprised if RAH even exists in its current form 5 years from now...minus Chautauqua which has already been announced.

Why? Are they closing the base you think?

Likely. I believe it was in a regular letter from the CEO. He mentioned that the mainline partners are wanting their regional partners to locate more of their assets in hubs. The idea is that operations will be less distupted by events that way. Seems like a good idea. I don't think we'll have GSO for too much longer as a crew base. And eventually someone with a brain is going to realize a lot of money could be saved by putting a Q on that route.

1. The current most junior GSO person was hired about a year ago. GSO vacancies are rare.

2. The company closes outstation bases at a drop of a hat. GSO is the smallest non-charter outstation base.

3. Upgrade at RAH will be further slowed by senior people displaced from the 145s as those are parked. There are still 41 145s flying for DL.
