At least..it should be for every single one of us.
We may not fly a medevac Lear but decision making trees are something we all share.
We have a moral obligation to learn from incidents and accidents.
If your primary concern has become your 401k or your Bitcoin or your attempts at tax evasion you should step back and do a serious evaluation.

One of the ways we learn is through understanding the tragic mistakes and errors of those who died, were injured, or had near misses. No one wants to dance on a grave. But, all fields of endeavor can be made safer in the future…

Reminds me of the 1700s and early 1800s railroad engines. They had regular fatalities. The fireman kept shoveling coal to make the fire hotter, to increase the steam pressure, to make it go faster. Push the envelope, performance at the sacrifice of safety. Inevitably the steam boilers burst, killing people. As a result, boiler design and operating codes were established. Pressure relief valve were installed, and then it was prohibited from tieing them down (override of a safety system). Fatalities dropped.

That's not entirely accurate. I want to dance on my ex mother-in-law's grave (and she'd not even dead, yet).

Dreams can come true.

Is your ex mother-in-law a pilot?

No, thank God.

I can't imagine her ego could be much worse, but a pilot certificate would push it over the top.

Concur. Good insight.

On a related note I have a former military acquaintance (I'm being intentionally vague to protect the guilty) who would absolutely hammer subordinates who popped hot on the whiz quiz. None involving operating equipment under the influence and all for Marijuana and none were pilots FWIW. Nothing like quality time with the old man while troops get ripped a new one as a result of a positive UA.

That said a couple years ago the same acquaintance made his own smoking hole in the ground in his own aircraft with prohibited substances in his system. Both he and his passenger were killed.

Good lesson for all of us. No such thing as rules for thee and not for me.

I would like to add one more thing. I had a conversation about this incident with a military buddy about 3 months ago and how if you kill yourself in an aircraft eventually all your sins are laid bare for the world to see.

Life is a lot like emails—don’t write or do anything you wouldn’t want on the front page of the New York .times.
