What comparison did I make? I left 121, yes a regional, but so what? I didn't like it so I left to try something else.

I retired from the military (gun pilot) and went to fly 121. Does this mean, then, that military flying is substandard to 121? No, it means I was ready to do something different.

I left 121 to try something different. That is all I indicated yet you immediately dismiss my experience because of your perceived superiority; i.e. "not a very good comparison." Get over yourself.

Relax gun pilot, Nobody is calling you substandard in any way. Your decision is all yours and only yours. Your fooling yourself if you think 121 is the same across the board, but like I said if your happy that’s all that matters. Carry on

All 121s are not the same. A regional has as much in common with a major as FlexJet has with NJA. They are two totally different animals. As long as everyone is happy where they are and are being truthful to others who are looking to make a jump, it’s all good.

I flew 20 years in the Air Force and went to 121 and was bored out of my mind, robot flying to same places every day with little operational input. I find the flying at NJA much more like the military, you have to be open to constant changes and never knowing where your going (like the Air Force) but its fun and you meet awesome people, 99% of the owners are down to earth and nice. I don't spend a dime usually while on the road, we get two catered meals a day and all hotels give free breakfast so I keep all the per diem, but best part is I get a ticket home after my 7 day tour for my 7 days off and I know my schedule all year. Also keep all points for airlines so already heading to Hawaii for free after one year! Fun Job!

The 121 guys $hitting on NJA have never lived through an economic downturn or have been furloughed. These same guys will be back when it happens praising NJA and begging for information. Whether it's Frac or 121, they are both just jobs and provide for our families. The airline guys make a little more and sorta work less (your commuting and crash pads suck), but that can be subjective what with keeping a medical, staying married, and living below your means.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. Such ignorance in that post. I personally have gone through an airline shutdown, a NJA furlough and a shrinkage at NJA from over 600 airplane to 400. Other guys posting on this thread have gone through worse, in fact one former NJA on here has gone though 3 airline furloughs and/or shutdowns.

Most of the guys are not bashing NJA, in fact almost all have said it’s a good job but ALL have said stop the lying about the benefits of NJA. You got one who thinks going TEB-PBI is somehow different than EWR-MIA and it’s less boring while obviously eating out of a plastic box is respectable, but he only works 5 months a year somehow. While one thinks NJA pilots make so much money that they make Scrooge McDuck look poor. What it comes down to what we all say, like where you work but don’t misrepresent the facts to fit some narrative. They all have benefits and they all have things not so great. Enjoy where you are for what it is.

You need to go spend some per diem at least once a tour. Have a nice meal or whatever. It feels good to get away from crew food and relax outside the hotel. You will feel better for it and most likely your captain will pay for a refreshment or two. I was a per diem horder for a long time. Then I realized a tour is just nicer if you get at least one good meal.
