Yes I have benefited from the age 60 rule, but so has so has everyone else at my airline. We are all here, not withstanding the growth, because someone retired. Most of my contemporary's as well as those more senior who have gone before me went begrudgingly, but never the less they retired. They left as men and hold no ill will toward anyone.

I don't view it as screwing you or anyone else anymore than you view it as trying to screw me out of my job. I already have the job and as long as I am capable of performing my duties I will carry out those duties until it is my time to leave or I decide it is time to leave.

Aren't we all in it for our selfish interests? Look, you want my job and that is fine because it is a good job. When it is time you can have it.

No life is more than just winning and losing it is how you play. I am still having fun at this and when it stops being fun I will quit. That may be before I am ready and at 65 or maybe before 65. Either way when it is time I will gladly quit. The fact of the matter is when I turn 60 I want to do more than just play golf and hunt and fish. And the neat thing about this job I will still be able to do all that....At least you are honest about the money; you're in it for your selfish interests. I like that.

I won't address your "undisputed" medical facts because the are disputed. I don't intend to work until I die but there are some things of which we have no control. Finances play no role in my decision to work past 60. I already talked about that in another post. As far as your perspective on enjoying life I don't care what you think. I don't know you; as far as I am concerned you are insignificant.

When I stated life is not fair I did not mean to imply that it was unfair. Life is what it is; it is what we choose to make of it. That point is axiomatic. What did I say that lead you to believe I have had setbacks. I have had a great life. Wonferful family and a great career.

As far as needing my seat, since when does need have anything to with it. If it is your goal to leave at 55 then go for it, that is your right. I am glad you enjoy life that is something no one has the right to interfere with.

It's really simple, I wanted age 60 to remain the same, to better my career, so in reality its selfish as well, just turns out to work out a whole lot better for the older folks, lets face it they moved up based on those above them retiring at 60, we will not be that fortunate, but like anything in life, especially this industry, its just not fair, but thats life. The only thing we ALL CAN DO AS A UNIFIED PILOT GROUP is make sure that management does not use this as a tool to lower pay, or abuse those who want to retire early.

I am so sick of regional guys bashing each other, major guys fighting within their own pilot group, and now the old agianst the young.........we are never going to get anywhere if we point fingers at each other, meanwhile management laughs their way to the bank. I hope CAL, United, NWA, DAL, AA guys really do all they can to not "ask" management to give them what they deserve, but take it, I dunno the Age 65 deal is another turning point in the industry, I am sure it won't be the last

Well said. I can look in the mirror and the end of my life and know I didn't take full advantage of a rule like Age 60, and then change it when it didn't suit me anymore while all those below me had to suffer as a result. I'd say those that did certainly didn't play very well. Enjoy your extra years at other expense. I am sure those that are junior to you won't mind as long as you have fun...

Maybe the ones that fly past 60 are flying not necessarily for money...maybe they love what they do.....gee what a concept...

Okay, why don't they do it for free then? Us at the regional level practically are. For an extra 5 years too. This just adds to the failure of those at the pinnacle of this industry to protect this profession. You guys are leaving this ship in much worse shape than you when boarded it. Might as well enjoy the good rations for a few more years while those below you wait. Just get yours and pull up the ladder behind you.

It's not about that...some people enjoy what they do and get paid well, some people enjoy what they do and don't get paid well. My point - I've met so many old timers that I think really enjoy flying and even after retiring, become hanger rats or find jobs having something to do with aviation...although money can be a factor, I would venture to say that you really have to like flying to put up with the BS that is prevalent in this profession. Maybe, just perhaps, some of these guys just truly like flying. It'll be interesting to see just how many still continue to fly after 60 -As far as how it affects the rest of the industry, only time will really tell. Me personally, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and I don't want to judge every pilot that works past the age of 60 as someone who is self centered, doesnt care about the profession or those behind him/her, and has the "ive got mine, who cares about yours" attitude.

Exactly. If you can do the job, why are you being forced out on the street? The age 60, age 65, etc, have nothing to do with ability or health. It's been a line of BS for decades. It's legalized age discrimination.

So, you're just gonna have to get 500 hours in order to fly that shiny jet, instead of the previous 250 hours total time because of the age 65 rule.

Uh huh, and take a 40% hit on your retirement. Oh, I know, now, it will be a 40% hit when you retire at 60. People age 55+ will benefit from this and the rest of us will be complaining about it for years to come. Thanks Bush. I thought he was going to veto the thing.
