At the interview presentation the company reps (hr and pilots) make a big fuss about how short the upgrade time is of late... "2.8 years for most recent 767 captain..." But that guy was hired how many hundreds of pilots ago? I don't have the data handy to work the numbers, but I suspect that a heck of a lot of attrition, expansion, and retirements will be required for that advertised trend to be sustainable. For now I'm putting that in the category of 'things that a used car calesman would say if he was hired to recruit a pilot.' It *intuitively* seems unrealistic to think that N.H. Pilot hired today will be Captain N. H. Pilot in 2.8 years. I'm not buying it without seeing actual numbers, which nobody at the interviews was willing to discuss.

That's totally unrealistic if you begin at Atlas today. Do the math yourself. In a year from now you'd have to be around 900 on the seniority list. If you started today at around #1520, how many would have to leave ahead of you in order to be awarded the upgrade?

Right now the most junior guy would move up the list an average of 15 per month. That average would eventually be cut in half to around 7 per month as you gain seniority. Use those numbers to decide for yourself.

Because attrition, but also due to the Amazon fleet growth. When that's over...

I've been here 1.5 years. And don't believe I'll see upgrade in the next 1.5 years. There are a ton of people in front of me.

I can sympathize. My "2-year upgrade" at the regionals took 6.5 years, and lasted 300 hours until we gave airplanes away to other carriers and I was downgraded.

You're not missing much, though. I upgraded almost a year ago and have flown @ 80 hours so far after OE.

I personally don't care... anyone that goes to any airline based on "quick upgrade" will be sorely disappointed. But then again we live in the insta generation- no such thing as hard work and patience

Atlas planning on being at FAPA Seattle 8/25??

I have an interview coming up with Atlas in a few weeks. To give a little background I am a regional FO living in base and bidding senior enough to get the days off I want. However, I am currently still 2 years away from upgrade. I have gotten pretty comfortable with where I am at and have mixed feelings from the people at Atlas I have talked to. Granted I may not even get the offer once I interview, I wanted to try and gather some more information before going in.

I live about an hour and a half from CVG so the 767 is very appealing to me. The HR person told me on the phone that getting assigned an airplane is a total mixed bag. She said plan to go to ANC on the 747 and if I get the 767 then even better (I appreciated her honesty). Can anyone give me an idea of the likely hood of getting the 767?

I was also told that the schedule is 17on/14off but the company can extend you up to 3 days (which she made sound very common). She went on to explain that "other" schedules were available once I was senior enough to bid for them. How likely is a 7on/7off one day on the 767? If I was single I would probably really enjoy the 17/14 schedule but with a young family having something shorter eventually is really ideal.

Training pay as I understand is $1600 a month as well as per diem. Is it still fair to plan 4 months at this pay?
