Just spoke to the last class of new guys in Miami...all 10 (?) are going to be based in ANC. So, yes, it does happen, but it all depends on what the needs of the company are at them time of your class.

I have read through quite a few pages but am not finding an example of schedules.
Can someone give an example of an ANC based schedule? Is it always 14-17 on 12-15 off? or do they have shorter trips

There's a reason that not much info on schedules is listed here. That's because there's really none to list. What you will find is information about the fluidity of whatever schedule you start with. All you can count upon is that you'll be out 17 days a month. Most times they will be in one piece (in JFK anyway). I think in some other bases, HSV for instance they might be split into two or three segments. I guess what I'm really trying to say is that one ought to try for this job because you love this sort of flying. Basing the decision on a set schedule or pattern is not productive because they both can and will change at the drop of a hat.

ANC Schedule snapshot:

Day 1 - Depart ANC

Day 17 - Return ANC (maybe) or commercial home from last stop (maybe)

As many have said, it's imperative to read the whole thread and understand what the job is. If your life requires...or you think you will be able to finesse the process to make sure you always get your days off (and I'm not implying that's your intent)...you will NOT be happy at Atlas.

Anyone who applies to Atlas who does have a family needs to have a serious sit down and lay the cards on the table and get some honest feedback before they take the job.

Is ANC a base that one would often start their trips from? I have read here that JFK based crews rarely start trips out of base, but HSV trips often do, making it necessary for a "commuter" to airline in a day early, with all the details involved (on your own time, permuted taxable airfare, etc).
ANC? Start trips there, or DH to meet an airplane?

This should be a sticky. This is what ALL ACMI or supplimential carriers are like. Love it or hate it, it is what it is. Your spouse or significant other will let you know how much you like it at Atlas, World or any other supplimential.

Spot on, and for me at least, that part has been easy to deal with. What I've found difficult is being on R1, or home reserve. If called, you have to be at the airport within 4-5 hours. No big deal, all what I expected.

The tricky part is the chaotic nature of our scheduling. A few days out, I would see that I had been assigned a trip, and we'd make arrangements for day care or baby sitters or weekend plans, etc. Then the next day, the trip would disappear, and we'd cancel everything. Then another trip would pop up ... You get the idea. Same thing with volunteering to work off days, you never really know if you'll get called or not, but so far I've always had at least 24 hours notice when I am called out.

Another example of Atlas life from a personal perspective:
in 1994, while going through an airline Chapter 11 divorce,
I was hired by Atlas. About a year later the now "ex" made a
comment to a mutual friend at Atlas that, "if I knew that ***
was going to be gone so much, I never would have divorced him!"

Seriously...PLEASE read the threads! Even the one just before your post. IT VARIES...it changes daily...weekly...hourly...minute by minute.

In other words...you are asking for specifics where there are none. If you are looking for a schedule that will not change and guarantees you that you WILL be home as published...Atlas is NOT for you.
