Yep, AMF can be frustrating. If you can get a spot at BQN the lifestyle is great and you're far removed from the BUR politics.

Quote: Yeah! hire 99 pilots off the street when they have plenty of pa31 pilots who would take the 99's. Havent seen a 99 bid come out in several months! They are also hiring Metro captains off the street for positions that NEVER went up for bid. This is yet another issue I have with this company.
There probably haven't been any 99 bids because most of the PA31 guys are learning to put in standing bids. We've had 4 BE99 guys come to DFW from Chieftain positions in the past couple of months. And one more in training.

As for metro jobs not going out to bid, I can only speak for DFW. We had two positions (SA227 reserve in DFW & DHL run IAH/MSY) that were up to bid for over a MONTH with no response before they posted ads on 350. The reserve spot got filled that way. The IAH/MSY finally got filled internally.

Quote: Maybe some of the current Amflight guys can help me out, Ive been in Africa on the B1900C for 2 years now one in the left and one in the right 2000TT on type 1000 in the left seat, When my contracts up 2600TT. Seattle is my home and would like to live there, does Amflight hire directly on to the 1900 if your already typed? or is there a seniority system?

Thanks
I've never seen a case of a 1900 spot being filled from the outside because it couldn't fill internally. You probably need to come in either in a 99 or even PA31. Once you're in the system, you would have a better shot since most guys coming into either one of those planes will need to fly for a couple years to meet the time requirements for a 1900.

Quote: how bout this: some guys been with the company for a year and a half and yet they hire off the street (for positions with better pay) because the guy is stuck in a 6 month "base commitment". The base commitment is bogus. If it is a truly better position (pay, larger airframe) then the current guys should get first dibs over a new hire... base commitment be damned.

upgrades that take a long time are fine as long as theyre not given to new hires due to technicalities in how the "employee handbook" is written.
SIU, if you hate Ameriflight so much, I hope you're not working here.

The outstation commitment is there because a lot of times it is tougher to get people into those assignments. The pilots who bid them know that going in. Choices have consequences.

Quote: I leave it to others to determine what constitutes "lots," but if anyone reading wants a good unbiased snapshot of what it's been like the last few years, take the list freightdog gave, add a few more for bases he's not as familiar with, then compare it with the number of pilots at AMF (airlne profiles, top right) and you'll get a pretty good idea of where we're at.
Or, if you ever have the opportunity, take a stroll through the halls of the SWA training center and see how many former Ameriflight pilots' photos adorn the walls. . . .

From what I could tell the high time people looking at going to a regional aren't really doing any more work than sending a resume and hoping for a call.

I was talking to one guy in SLC and all he did was send a ton of resumes. He was ****ed he didn't get an interview and was looking at SkyWest. Currently the only airlines that will hire with a resume blitzkrieg are the regionals. Some extra work is required to get a job at a major.

. . . been there done that
I started out 121 regionals, then went 135, then back to the 121 world.

Hands down, 121, even at the regionals, is better than 135.

End of story.

135 with all the cr@p they can get away with (perpetual on-call, interpretation of pretty much any FAR to a way that suits them) = a gamble on your ticket, sanity and outlook on life. Glad I'm out and in retrospect should have done the regional thang.

Whoever you worked for I'm sorry you had such a poor experience. I'm sure some regionals are no different than what you just described above. What works for you doesn't work for someone else. To each their own.

That's true. I agree. How many years you been at Am-Flight if you don't mind me asking?
