If hired, are you hired into the -300 or the X? Or are you hired and when you show up for class, you're told what you're flying?

I'm sure early on, learning about the airplane keeps you busy on the long x-countries (i.e. reading manuals while in the cockpit, or talking w/ the captain) but after awhile, how do you entertain yourself on those long flights?

There's pros/cons in every job, and crap to deal with everywhere - I always thought being an astronaut must be the ultimate job; well, read a few biographies and you'll find that although flying in space itself is amazing, most of the time you're earthbound and dealing with politics of the agency. Not as dreamy..
just have to deal with it, whatever you're doing.
I'm sure a long overnight in Hawaii can make up for it lol.

Aircraft assigned in indoc depending on need. We have onboard wifi, but only for company business, wink, wink.

What he said 😉

Although a Uflymike set up is a must...for comfort reasons.

I was assigned a few weeks before and was sent a contract letter to sign prior to showing op for Indoc. That was November 15' so what dirtysidedown says might be more accurate.

I recently went through indoc and type school, they sent an offer letter with which aircraft I had been assigned. However, they did say it could change based on need.

cool; both aircraft look pretty cool
always love hearing you guys check on "XO123 a FL470" lol.

when it's the day before your rotation begins, about when do they call or email to give you your travel itinerary? Is it usually reasonable (as in, not calling at 9pm to say your commute flight is at 7am..)

i'm sure the wifi is always used for company related business, lol.. i'm actually happy with a good magazine or book but didn't know if some captains frown on that;
The PAX probably assume you'll be going back to use the lav at some point ?

I'm on the east coast and I usually get my travel reservations by at least 5 or 6 pm. Yes you can use the lav. I thought the same. Felt weird using the wifi at first for "company" stuff...but you get usd to it real quick that when it's not available for some reason you think you might go nuts.lol

You'll receive an email no less than ten hours (required rest prior to duty) before your show time the next day.

Haven't seen a magazine yet, but e-books on the iPad is a possibility.

Using the lav is no big deal, just check on the passengers first before you walk by them. "How is everything? Is the temperature okay? Can I get you anything - water, coffee?"

I'm sure this is addressed, but I've been back into last fall, and wondered if things were still the same in terms of best way to get a call? Just fill out the online app and wait? I'm happy to do anything I can, just thought I'd see if there's a smarter way. Thanks!

Well it seems the only way to get a call is still by internal or job fair. I hope that's going to change as people are leaving quicker than they can replace them so me thinks they are going to have to rethink how they recruit.

I wonder what the thought process is at companies; "we need pilots, but we'll ignore all these resumes!"
Over the years I've sent countless emails to various companies- rarely get a response and if I do, it's "call us." Then the phone message goes unanswered.
Oh well; "their loss" lol
