If you go to NYC, expect to take a lot of AA jumpseats. The good news is there are lots of them and few AA jumpseaters between DFW and NYC. Your seniority will go a lot further in NYC, too. ATL is very senior.

Try to plan on moving asap. You don't want to use the call in honest policy ever while you are on probation. Termination would be a real possibility. You don't want to use it if you can avoid it once you are off of probation, either.

If you have made a honest effort to get to work and have the proper backups termination is not a possibility. DFW is a tough commute but you are not going to get fired if you have followed company policy. The failure to commute policy is also contractual. Getting a positive space backup is not however contractual and is at scheduling discretion.

This has been talked about on another thread somewhere. Delta is a Microsoft based system. If I was a new guy, I'd invest in a $350 (or possibly cheaper now) laptop that can run a cd (quarterly training) and has a usb port for the thumb drive for qualification training. Then you can have the option of doing the training where you want and not be tied to training center/hotel computers. I think junglebus talked about how to do it with a Mac system and partitioning somewhere....

Awe! Should have read a few earlier pages. Thank you.

Any Denver commuters on the board? If so, PM me so I can pick your brain…

Likewise, info on commute from SEA to the junior bases (ATL, NYC, DTW) would be awesome. I'm guessing I'll probably need a crash pad.
Thanks

Jan 21 interview group. At least 5 of the 7 of us got the call For 2 Jun training. I don't know about the other two yet. They may have gotten the call as well. The guy who called confirmed Delta is ramping up training for the summer. Unfortunately, he didn't give any specific information. Looks like everyone will have to swim a little less than expected.

Got the 2 Jun invite as well.

I also confirmed today with the Delta hiring team that they prefer you to keep your airlineapp acct active even after interview/job offer (until you go to training). I asked via email back in Feb since my acct was expiring so now have the info from two separate sources. Got the impression they use it to ensure they have current contact info.

Looking for commute info from SLC to points east.

First off congrats on being hired. 2nd: Forget Atl., it's very senior and you'd be on rsv a LONG time. 3rd: I commuted Sea-NYC for 3 long years. Most of it as a line holder, winters on rsv by choice. Commuting to a Jr line you're going to end up with about 8 quality days off a month at home with your family. It'll be impossible to get a Greenslip & very hard to White Slip. Count on spending all your reserve days either flying, shortcall in a crash pad or commuting back and forth.

Good news is that with the rate of hiring & West Coast Expansion you might be able to hold LA or SLC by the time your freeze is over. Forget Seattle for several more years, I can't hold it after 8 years.

Do yourself & your family a favor and MOVE for 1-2 years a DO NOT COMMUTE. You'll be less stressed, well rested, MUCH better QOL and make more $$. Between the two I'd go for DTW. Very low cost of living, low taxes and affordable housing. IF I haven't convinced you not to commute, it's an hour shorter each direction and airport motels are around $40 out the door. 5-6 motels a month there is 1000% better than a Kew Gardens crashpad & cabs in NYC.

I'll never commute again, even if it adds several years an upgrade. Base you budget & retirement investing on narrow body FO salary and suddenly the stress/pressure is gone. Anything above that is gravy.

All you newbs planning to commute better get crash pads and always plan on getting in the day before a trip or reserve.
Despite sailingfun's assurances, I would not want to be missing trips or calling the Chief Pilot for a positive space ticket while on probation.
You could probably get away with that once. The second time would raise some flags.
