Quote: Am I missing something? I keep hearing Delta is to blame along with Skywest. I’m having trouble connecting the dots. If Skywest had wanted to make the ASA side of ExpressJet profitable, they damn sure could’ve. Bottom line is that they hate Unions so much that they kept whittling away at the planes and flying that ASA was doing in a controlled asset transfer to the Skywest side. Logic should follow that eventually it becomes unsustainable as the company becomes top heavy because employee attrition excellerates. Skywest tells their minions that ExpressJet is too expensive. Well, they created that problem
That’s part of it,

But delta has been trying to dump that contract for years.

The new CEO just decided to make it a priority. I blame him just as much.

Quote: It definitely sucks. But......when has business ever had anything to do with morality? I got my degree in business, and by the time I graduated I was disgusted with how business works. People get rich by exploiting others, not because they provide a superior product. Being on the receiving end SUCKS, but my kids gotta eat and for now I’m too deep on the list to make any moves except up. The “burn it down” crowd either don’t actually work here or have a side income and don’t care about anybody but themselves. If SkyWest wants to make it work now, I hope they pull it off. Do I have an ugly opinion of how they’ve treated everybody? Sure do. Does that affect how I do my job? Sure doesn’t.
This whole thing is a play on fear. Airlines have done it time and time again. I have an idea, let's vote in some marginal sub par deal or maybe even concessions because people like you haven't diversified their skills or experience. How about NOT. Endeavor rates or close the doors. Play time is over. I have kids too but am smart enough to have stayed diversified. This industry has been like this throughout its existence.

I never said I would vote in concessions or even a $hitty deal. You must not have gotten that fed job.

I meant spit it out in shock, not like spit it out at them. I almost had wine come out my nose when I heard this on the call in.

I think it will take more than $ to fix this place, though that would help. People have lost hope and no one in their right mind is coming here. About the only thing we have going for us right now is that we aren’t Mesa.

Come on, you know you would vote in concessions if the threat was to take away your CPP spot via a permanent xjt shutdown. I guessing you’ll do anything now to keep this place around till at least you’re gone. I don’t blame you.

I had some issues in my background that came out with prior businesses, so lets just say I won't be invited back for a while. But back to the topic, the whole "my kids gotta eat" attitude is the exact attitude of scabs. Just ask any scab why they crossed a picket line and you will hear, my family, my kids, no money, blah blah blah. The funny thing is we all have a family to feed. But we also have to stand our ground and not devalue ourselves any less. Any by not demanding more, we are taking a pay cut with every passing year. (inflation)

If there were a hypothetical strike vote tomorrow I would truly hope we would have upwards of 99% of members willing to strike. I would hope every pilot starts squirreling away at least 4-6 months of living expenses in case that day comes. So we don't have the "my kids gotta eat" people bending over for the company.

Good luck with that strike vote. Those who would have voted for it have already left. If it happens, I wouldn’t cross the line, so your “scab” talk is lame. I’ll go ahead and drop the “my kids gotta eat” line. If XJT closed tomorrow, my family wouldn’t suffer. I’ve planned for life’s bumps in the road. That doesn’t mean I intend to create difficulty for myself because of emotional responses to business decisions that I can’t control. I’ll vote NO for any bad contract that comes. I certainly did the last time. You keep doing your thing.

Remember, if Xjet shuts down tomorrow, every pilot will be welcomed at any other regional. Places like Republic would eagerly offer you the next available class date. Given the overall condition of the industry, I'm not afraid of the shut it down mentality.

That’s like saying “if my Datsun b210 breaks down, it’s cool....there’s a Pinto waiting for me somewhere.”
