Quote: I had a sim instructor say the same thing to me during an observation. He also said that the new FMS would allow us to do VNAV and LPV approaches with autopilot. All nice, however it doesn't mean it is for sure. I'll believe it when it happens.

How long did Cat II go from "we're getting it" to full certification? 5 years?

I've only heard the new FMS will have ADS-B out and more memory. The boxes look the same. Still Universal.

Hello All

Thanks in advance for your reply. I am looking to come across from 135 world to 121 so need some information hopefully to make an educated decision.

I will be interviewing with Envoy soon, assuming that I can start in May

1. How long do you think the training is taking.
2. How long is the reserve.
3. I know the trend is going towards a 2 year upgrade, but how realistic is that. I am trying to decided between envoy and PDT as their upgrades are quicker and the extra money helps.

Thanks.

Quote: I think you should differentiate between complaining and expressing excitement to fly. Not once have I said a negative thing about the break. I've informed those who have a vested interest of what I've been told by scheduling. Seeing as you aren't a classmate, I guess what I say doesn't really apply to you.

I'm sorry that you are jaded, but honestly I don't care what you think. I busted my ass to get to this point. I started by tossing bags and emptying lavs while working my way up the corporate ladder and going to flight school. So I'm so sorry that I have a genuine desire to be at Envoy and get out there and be abused for a bit. I want to fly and can't wait to see that first trip show up in my schedule.
Dude it sounded like you had a good attitude. Don't let someone rain on your parade. I totally am on your side about not wanting to sit at home for 7+ weeks. Just let the guy be grumpy elsewhere.

Seriously, God forbid someone want to work? Really the attitude you have towards someone who has a different viewpoint than yours? Must be fun to be on a 4 day with you. Some people don't have the luxury of just travelling on their days off. Have an open mind.

1. 3/4 months.
2. 2 month to 2 years
3. End of this year it'll probably be close to 2.5/3 years. And I'm talking flying the line. Not an on paper captain.

Training is taking about 12 months with the backlogs we have. Normally it is 8-9 weeks. You can expect to be in reserve anywhere from 1-8 months, depending on base and equip. The 2 year upgrade is very realistic. You will be given a lot of info when you interview.

12 months? That can't be right.

At most is taking 6 months. And that's the guys there where in the 145 in my class. That's from day one to completion of ioe. In the CRJ it took us about 4 months.

Reserve was around 4 years for me, but I think some guys are holding lines after a year now.

With the most recent upgrade award, we'll probably be down to a 3.5 year upgrade later in 2017, but currently the most junior captain is about 6 years.

I would recommend going to the airline to which you can drive to work or have an easier commute.
