Were your eyeballs MEL'ed when you selected your benefit plan as a newhire? You fly an airplane but need SGU types to read out the details?

Most companies used to take the time to walk through benefits or do sessions at the end of the year that would explain what was changing with the plans each year. Now it seems that all you get is some documentation and have to find out the hard way if something is not covered. Thankfully I don't need to use our insurance here since my spouse has better and cheaper coverage.
I would normally make some crack about being industry leading, but healthcare in general has taken a turn for the worse everywhere. But that discussion would dominate it's own thread.

oh i knew what i was getting but the HSA benefit granted it would only come out to around 250$ this year as its quarterly was not really mentioned anywhere except in a convoluted way. Im sure I was probably much more focused anyways on limitations and things of that nature than benefits at the time of being a brand new hire and on the line.
hah what do you care I just put out a little piece of advice for a new hire reading this forum.

Sounds like ORD is junior base for both CRJ and ERJ. I live in Chicago and wanted to know which aircraft you would take, given the option.

Just transitioned to the ERJ from the CRJ. While the ERJ kicks ass and the trips are better, I highly recommend you take the CRJ. The ERJ list in ORD has grown quite long and I suspect you could be reserve for quite some time unless we find new flying on it here.
That said, I said this exact same thing a year ago when I got hired and took the CRJ for better QOL and seniority. Well guess what, all the ERJ guys and gals in my class have all been enjoying much better seniority than I have. The move is taking me from 66% in base to 45%. So really who knows. If your patient and don't mind taking a risk ERJ could be a really good gig, especially if we get more flying.:.

Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. I'm trying to make the best choice, long term. I wouldn't mind moving out of Chicago but living here, on reserve, doesn't sound awful.
I'd recommend you shoot for MSP. IAH to ORD is hub to hub for UA which is no bueno. Weather/flow delays slightly better in MSP. Pairings are slightly better in ORD overall, but suck in both junior domiciles at the junior end. You'll be in Houston I think before you could hold the better ORD trips. Obviously commuting to reserve will suck equally bad in both, hopefully it will be very short lived.
I don't commute out of IAH so someone who does may have better advice.

Where are you getting that the HSA may go away next year?
