CVG is where I went to sim. Hotel has good breakfast every morning. Monday and Tuesday they had dinner/snacks and drinks for free. There's a burrito place, and a subway that is walking distance from the hotel. Otherwise, you're going to need to find someone with a car to ride over to the store to do some shopping. Usually there seems to be at least one person with a car. I had a few friends in sim there who had cars. They put you in a 2 bedroom suite with a central area with a full kitchen.

The sims are nice. They get the job done. Nothing fancy about CVG really. Get your type rating and head on home... That's about how I felt after being there for a month straight... Some guys traveled home on their days off. I stayed the whole month...

With regards to flying at certain times of the day that comes with pbs. You can ask for report times and release times but it depends on your senority on what you can hold.
I still haven't figured out why everyone holds on to this belief that PBS will give you what your seniority can hold. PBS will give you what it needs to for the flying to be covered by the company. We have no oversight and no say in how it processes these awards. So you can request what you would like and you may be lucky enough to get it sometimes, but the flying that is awarded to you rarely has anything to do with your seniority level.

In fact, I feel pretty confident in saying that despite the push and PIC requests for PBS transparency, the only way we will have any insight into PBS regarding awards will be to have a true contract. SGU will come up with all sorts of reasons or scare tactics to keep SAPA from publishing line awards. They don't want you to see the inconsistency and violations that happen each and every month.

CVG hotel is nice, the neighborhood is nice but there is not a lot around, Subway, burrito place, supposedly a chicken place next to them. There is a convenience store with expensive stuff and a sushi place nearby. You can also walk over the freeway to the Holiday Inn which has a decent restaurant.

Cincinnati is a pretty cool, if you have time it's worth getting an uber into town if you haven't been there. Lots of good places to eat, drink and have fun in OTR. I was glad I made the trip on one of my days off, pleasantly surprised.

Otherwise it's all business. Sim, room, study, sim. It is a good spot for what you're there to do.

Replied to the wrong post above, anyway, the CVG hotel beats the Drury, however the Drury has FSI in easy walking distance. Also, more stuff nearby. Saying that, I was very happy with CVG.

Also, there is Peacox.

SLC without a question. Mainly because you can easily get into downtown SLC to a nice grocery store (Harmon's), Starbucks etc., within 15 minutes on the light rail.

I did sims in ATL. The Drury hotel isn't called the Dreary for no reason. Think brick walls with very slim windows, very little natural light, and much, much smaller rooms than the Candlewood. There are precisely zero grocery stores within walking distance, and getting into downtown ATL on the Metro takes at least an hour, since you have to shuttle to the airport and then jump on a train. Also, the neighborhood around the ATL hotel is super-sketchy (and I live in Oakland CA, so that's saying something.)

Haven't been to CVG so can't comment. But if I was in your shoes I wouldn't think twice about bidding for SLC.

After 3 weeks of trying to eat the same 2 dinner menus every night (pasta and meatballs one night, chicken tenders and mac n' cheese the second night), I was ready to shoot myself. I had to make a couple trips to a health juice bar in downtown ATL just to get some frickin' vitamins in my system.

If I never taste those meatballs and chicken tenders ever again in my life, it will be too soon.

The highlight of my ATL stay was walking by the Expressjet hangar and seeing a -200 that the IOE FO had stalled and dropped in from 15 feet. Bent the main spar and totaled the airplane. You could actually see the bend in the wing and the crinkling in the fuselage.

What was the LCA doing during this event? Sounds like the Asiana crash....hey look at that pretty green trend vector going down into the red....I wonder what that means?

Hello all,

I'm looking at applying to different regionals. I live 2 drive from LAS. Near SGU Actually. So one criteria in choosing a regional is finding something with a base near to me.

I've heard there is no movement in SLC, is this true? Is it possible for a new hire with SKW to get SLC? What about nearby bases such as DEN?

If anyone has any info on how long it will take a new hire to reach some of the western bases that would be appreciated.

Also, how realistic is it to commute out of a small town such as SGU where there are only a few flights per day?

Thanks

SGU would be hard to SLC, the headquaters employees nonrev alot. DEN may not be so bad.

You will punch yourself in the nuts twice a week for several years.
