That jumpseat is a torture device. Honestly, the most uncomfortable I have experienced in my short time here. Only did it for a Fam flight and don't want to do it again.

Folks, couple of dumb questions - just been reading some other threads about American Eagle voting no to a TA.

Does that have any effect on other regionals, specifically SkyWest? I understand that it's a different company, but the flavor of those threads are that there will be industry-wide implications and ripples. What would those be?

Also, what's a MEC?

MEC: Master Executive Council.
The way I understand it, I am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, the MEC is a group of union representatives elected by the union membership. The MEC represents the union's position and negotiates contracts and pay. The MEC decides (by vote) whether or not to put a contract proposed by the company to vote.

Here's my opinion on the first part of your question, does eagle's vote have any effect on other regionals, specifically Skywest? If so, why?

Short answer: Yes
As to the why: American Airlines (AA) stated that it would award contracts to regionals other than American Eagle if the TA was voted down. If American follows through with the threat then other regionals like Skywest, Mesa, Republic, etc. will get the contracts that Eagle was supposed to receive if they took it up the rear end with a concessionary contract.

Here's what I think, not that you asked. The Eagle pilot group did an awesome thing today by voting no. They have made a statement with which the majority of regional pilots will agree. In essence, the statement being we are tired of getting the skin worked off our backs for minimum wage while profits abound. We are worth more than that and are in a position to leverage our profession.

Republic has a similar vote pending. I think the vote closes on April 4th. If the Republic pilot group follows suit, there will be a definitive message (ripple) sent across the industry.

That's my 2 cents worth.

I only had someone in the actual jumpseat once. The FA's seat was deferred so the back was limited to 29 but we had the numbers to take 30 provided one person sit in the actual jumpseat.

I was never able to get 31 on board.

I remember having people in the jump, but only for really short legs... Like PDX-EUG.

If there aren't seats in the back, it will almost certainly be too weight restricted. Due to the FAA pax weight change after the air-midwest accident, the Bro is usually limited to 28 pax even though it has 30 seats. Sometimes you can squeeze on 29 but as someone said, it's ZFW limited so there's no wiggle room on the manifest.

Only way to take someone in the actual is a long flight with lots of kids. Try SGU-DEN on Dec 24.

I'm sure you meant SGU-SLC, since DEN is on the jet. The EMB jumpseat is mostly there for decoration; if loads are looking full, you might be better off looking for a cheap car rental.

Thanks very much for the thoughtful answer skypilot, that helps me understand what it all means a little better!

I have a question for any skywest folks who have gone through training recently. I have a class date this monday (31st)

They say for day2 you need a white shirt and black tie. I have that. Problem is now I am contemplating if they want black pants too. Nowhere in the packets or emails does it say black pants but I don't want to be caught off guard. I hardly ever ever wear black pants. I was going to bring khaki pants and wear a black sweater over the shirt+tie when not taking the picture.

I don't imagine that would be a problem would it?
