I do wonder what'll happen when all of the CRJ 200s finally are pooped out. These planes do fly every day, and ain't gettin any younger. What are regionals like Skywest just going to fly 70 plus seaters everywhere, and say bye bye to the small communities that they were made on?

they will keep pulling old ones from the desert and putting new engines on them for probably the next 10 years. The entire airline industry &possibly the US economy could and likely will go through another whole boom/bust cycle by that time

Yep, closed at $15 even today. A big rebound from where it was at the end of 4Q 2014.

As for reserve, how did YOU do? Reserve shouldn't be that bad when you live in base, but this isn't my plan.

In my class (1/26) there were some pretty junior guys near the bottom of class that still got SLC. Granted they weren't great blocks (think 0400 start time), but it is possible. It used to be worse, November hires were waiting a month or more to start sim. Although, the flip side of the coin could be like me, where one bids and gets SLC but then their partner drops out and one finds themselves heading to ATL in a couple weeks...quite ironic considering I live in SLC and had good enough seniority already as a new hire to bid on a good SLC sim slot.

SkyWest reserve is the worst kind of hell on earth.

You have no idea of what you're getting into.....

Sorry dude.....

Perception isn't necessarily reality. I'm on reserve, live in base & end up spending a lot if quality time with the family. Helping the little ones with homework, getting things done on the honey-do list and just relaxing. If I get the call then I get dressed & go to work. If this is hell, I'd sure love to see what heaven looks like. Some people...

What are the reserve times looking like these days? How long until you hold a line. I know it depends on the base. What about Denver and ORD?

Also, how often do you get called to fly on reserve? My goal is to fly as much as possible while here so I'm wondering how much flight time I can get.

Thanks!

While I agree reserve sucks, I don't think skywest reserve is that much worse than anywhere else. In fact, I KNOW it's a lot better than reserve at Mesa (cue Facebiter??). SAPA has done some good work in getting some improvements to our reserve rules lately.

Besides, people on reserve right now are breaking guarantee every month!

I'm in ORD and held a line after 3 months. I can't speak for Denver. Reserves will fly 70-80 hours a month.

Careful what you say though, if you average more than 83 hours per month you will time out (rolling 1000/yr). But you will be able to get all the flying to your hearts content!
