IF you feel you need to fly to stay proficient, call your chief and express that concern. That was advice given to me by my chief as a new hire, that he would make things happen. It will probably be IAH flying. I am guessing they would displace a lineholder. That IS one of the great things about SkyWest.

As far as sitting around on reserve... flying ebbs and flows. You'll see

Where do you live?

CRJ hires can expect ORD or MSP initially and COS, IAH, DEN or even SFO after a month or two.

The only flying I've done after training has been flying I've picked up on my off days by calling and asking to have it added. Definitely not a happy camper right now...

I've got a trip with no f.o. assigned if you want to try and pick it up, shoot me a PM.

Guess there is now talk to sending a few people to do ERJ sim in Paris as of March due to wait times people are having. But the bad part our "agreement" only pays 4 hours for a DH max.

Thanks man... I found a 4 day IAH trip in open time (not crew posted, just open time ) that exactly matched my 4 day reserve in IAH. I called CS and they wouldn't give it to me. 'You can only pick up trips on your days off'. Oh well... At least they gave me a couple trips that I tried to pick up on my off days.

Another suggestion I have heard is, since I'm still well below 100 hrs, is ask the training department to give me that open time trip. That's the next thing I'll try before bothering my chief to get some flying.

But for today, I'll just park myself again at the Starbucks in IAH Terminal B, ExpressJet side. Sort of my new home...

Well yeah, they're just assuming that you'll get a really really nice tailwind across the pond...

Over the past couple weeks I've noticed that all of the "Call First: NO" guys are blocked solid, while all of the "Call First: YES" guys aren't flying at all.
Problem is that you are trying to use logic and rational thinking in the airline industry. Places like your other job have to adapt or they will fail. I think the same thing holds true for airlines, but it just takes longer. SkyWest has been able to get through tough times, but it is really scary how hard they are fighting against efficiency right now.
Proffering - Let pilots pick up trips while on reserve. I honestly think they big holdup on this is because they won't be able to add RR or notify us for future flying. That and they would have to plan further out than 15 minutes in the future.
Adding RT after duty day - Blaming this on 117 but it is their laziness and old software that doesn't allow this.
Virtual domiciles or Aggressive pickup - Wouldn't have to TDY (or OBR) as many people cause we could do what we are paid to do and fly airplanes.

But your right, you are way more valuable to the company hanging out in Starbucks. Heaven forbid that you be at home willing to come in in case there was a flying need. And it doesn't help that people say "Oh yeah, reserve sucks. Do your time like I did" I spent like 3 1/2 years on reserve and I don't wish that hell on anyone. If we could make it so that nobody had to spend time on reserve or it was better, I would be happy for those that didn't have to suffer.

Bottom line is that Regionals don't give a $hit about their pilots. They just hope you do your time and leave. Pretty telling that we only had one volunteer for the student body opening. Everyone else is too fat, dumb and happy to see the storm brewing, or are actively trying to GTFO.

Default current interviews

Anyone interviewed recently?
There's no way they're doing phone interviews as someone said in another thread; any insights on current gouges?
Is there a sim?
Is the interview different if you go to a job fair as opposed to their headquarters?
