Seeing as they fly 2 types of aircraft, its probably best to say which one is upgrading. We have people that wont understand otherwise. But, hey, Do what you feel like you need to!

I'd say it would be better to give a more realistic view. Yes the most junior awarded CA was hired on 7/13, so 2 years and 10 months ago. But the next junior on the list was hired on 12/12 which would still be over 3 years. And the most senior FO to upgrade is 16 years.

If you want to take the absolute lowest number and make it the new standard, be my guest. But I would caution anyone to think that the new upgrade here is 2 years and 10 months. With about 500 FO's above the most jr CA, taking the very first upgrade class usually leads to a crash course in CS reserve abuse 101. ymmv

Good point my bad, didn't think about it from that angle.

Wow y'all see the most junior upgrade. Under 3 years... It's dropping like a rock

Ya lets see how long he sits reserve. Everyone else is just waiting on enough of those guys to upgrade so they can hold a line.

Not long. Upgrades classes get bigger in June.. ERJ classes doubble in size and RJ goes up also.. Plus the opening of DTW in July.. Still predict it being under 2 years by summer..

Considering there are only about 15 FOs between those 2 (gap in hiring), I don't know how else you'd paint the picture. There will always be guys who hold out for a certain base or ability to hold a line. When people ask about upgrade times, they are usually referring to the most junior captain award. In this case, that would be 2 years 10 months. Awards are not finished yet. Could go even more junior. The other side to the coin is that there were only about 150 pilots hired in all of 2013. I don't think the train is stopping anytime soon.

^^^^ What he (or she) said.

Amazing that the upgrade is below 3 years at the moment. Who cares if it's a CRJ, ERJ, or a clapped-out King Air A90 with the -6 engines? It's turbine PIC time.

Admittedly though, I will be one of those guys who holds out until I can upgrade in base. I'm not commuting to reserve again. Ever.

I'm sorry, I must be stupid, where are you guys seeing this award? According to the seniority list on SWOL (Operations), the most Jr. capt I see is listed as 6/25/2012 hire date. (2304 Sr. #)

Is there a more accurate source than the seniority list on SWOL?

Yup. Check Standing Bid List, then click Awards...

So you are saying they are honoring seniority now with E175 transitions now? Maybe it goes down more but I still think that once they finalize the Delta benefits and people know where those 175's are going that you will see upgrades and transitions go more senior.

I just think it is a disservice to those that are looking for an honest outlook on upgrade times to give the upgrade time of 32 months when that is not realistic of what they can expect. I don't see 15 FO's between the two, I see 2398 and 2399 at the hiring dates I mentioned above. It appears that they are done for now. I think that upgrades aren't as important for those that want to move on, but more and more senior folks are taking the upgrade once they know they won't be sitting reserve. And to anyone looking to upgrade or come here, our reserve rules are the worst in the industry. But we do have a reserve re-write just around the corner.
