Skywest v2.0

A lot of people struggle with the speed of the jet and 121 ops combined. I've heard from others that are coming in as career changers or hobbyists that they can't keep up with the automation on the 175. Whatever it is you only hear the bad.... I've never heard an a LCA say, O man this one student was so good I could have signed him off after one flight. The long IOE gets regurgitated amongst pilots to push an agenda of making themselves feel better since they did it in a normal amount of hours.

SKW typically assigns approximately 35 hrs IOE as standard. It used to be, if you weren't signed off by 50 hours, you were shown the door. However almost everyone in my class was done within 35 hours and I think one guy had maybe an extra 5 hours.
I do know of one pilot, not in my class, who was signed off after more than 100 hours IOE. But stories like that are very much the anomaly.

Prior to the requirement for all airline pilots to have an ATP, I gave IOE at what was then American Eagle. Most of the new hires in those days had 350-500 hours or so. Most took anywhere from 35-50 hours to finish IOE, but they showed progress each flight, so we continued until they finally "got it" well enough to be safe line pilots. In three years, I had maybe two new hires who hit 100 hours.

During my interview they were suggesting there's a *chance* that IAH has the potential to grow, but nobody knows for sure. I'm hoping it sticks around since I'm a Houston native and would like to move back home for a bit.

I would definitely not assume that IAH will be around for much longer.

So IOE may not be taking 100 hours for everyone, but I was on a dead head this AM and saw the FO was someone from my new hire class 11 months ago. The captain was someone I live by... Ends up the FO STILL can't make a stabilized approach into SLC in calm winds and visual conditions, Capt had to take the controls, go around and land it himself... Scary to think we're letting people that need to rely on a gouge and stolen answers to get through ground and then can't even fly the plane to stay out online when they can't even do this job... Desperate times I guess. First time I've questioned one of the people up front when I've been dead heading

Thinking about dropping in my application here soon and I have a few questions for all you OOers:
The (soon to be) wife and I have planned our honeymoon for early next year (January) and we'll be gone for about 10 days. First, how realistic is it that I could even get that time off? Second, how bad would it look in the interview if I told them about needing the time off? I don't wanna be the "what can you do for me" guy and I certainly don't want to ruffle any feathers.
Should I wait to apply?

My own experience flying with recent new hires has been good overall. Sure, I seem to give a little free additional IOE here & there but that (to a degree) is a good captain's job. I still enjoy teaching moments as long as I'm not working my butt off just to keep us safe or legal. There have been a few less than optimal moments but not overwhelmingly bad IMO.

yoi should apply and just defer you class date until your wedding / honeymoon.
You lose total control over your life until you start bidding ... And either get reserve or a line .... And no way to have 10 days off in a row ....
