If anything, they should be at the bottom of in-class seniority for having cost the company all that extra money.

Two dudes interview same day, one with 121 experience, an ATP, and a type in the same plane the company flies; the other is a Commercial/CFI with no 121 experience, yet he will end up being senior to the first guy simply because he was LESS qualified? It's wrong.

The seniority hit cost me when it came time to bid for sim, bid for domicile, and eventually vacation, upgrade, etc. It's just wrong.

The two pilots should be equal since they started ground on the same day. Then seniority should be determined the way they always have by social security number. That seems like the fair and easy solution to the problem.

I completely agree. But just like newhires taking 175 sim slots when there's plenty of current senior RJ pilots wanting to bid over it'll just be ignored.

Is there any insider info on whether SkyWest is going to start offering any signing bonuses, or maybe an education reimbursement program at schools other than ATP?

I ask because I am currently attending a school where Envoy just began offering a pathway program where they pay you a set monthly amount as a CFI in order to help pay off loans, on top of providing health and travel benefits. However I would really like to shoot for SW due to the base locations being closer to where I live (SLC, with hopes of even being based here) and it seems the QOL is better there than at Envoy. Anyone hear anything?

I doubt it. Classes are full as it is.

.. Honestly, as a line pilot, I hope they don't. I'd much rather see another (equal) rate increase before giving away money to CFI's. This won't happen, but wishful thinking.

I might not be understanding how they do the seniority so correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't think the guys that need the CTP course are senior for that reason are they? Wouldn't they be given a seniority number when they show up for CTP? If the new hire with 121 experience would start class before the other one started CTP wouldn't the one with 121 time then be senior?
To me that makes sense. Whoever starts class first is more senior. Be it CTP or RJ class they are beginning their Skywest employed training.
I don't know any more fair way to do it. Interview date doesn't work because you could be offered the job but defer your class date for several months.
Ranking seniority based on prior experience could get pretty hairy. What about the guys coming out of the woodwork with years of prior 121 time but no ATP? Or someone with 121 time and an ATP but no type? Or 135 time with ATP and type but no 121 time?
Way too many combinations and no right answer for who is "more qualified".
So again not sure if this is how they are doing it or not but most fair way is when you start training at Skywest you get a Skywest seniority number.

In class now. Seniority in the class is:
1. Cadets based on date of being a cadet.
2. Last 4 of SSN.
CTP date has nothing to do with it. We have a combination of CTP class dates in our group, and several who didn't attend CTP. Makes no difference, the cadets are 1st, then the rest of us with SSN. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Now they just need to go in and redo the seniority of classes where they treated CTP people as prior employees.
