Serious question from the uninformed: how are the schedules for you guys so awful when you are hiring 100 per month and passing ~85-90 per month? Are they all going to the 175?

A couple of things are at play...

- a lot of the hiring is compensating for attrition and also growing the seniority list. But no all of it is growth
- the CRJ side appears to get staffed just enough to keep up. Presumably to anticipate the inevitable fleet transition to the 175
- we seem to be picking up a lot of extra flying that others cannot do

As far as schedules are concerned it is all relative. I rather have too much work than too little but that is me.

But overall efficiency has lots of room for improvement. There are many airport appreciation sits that really get old. And because staffing is so lean there is almost no chance to get time off.

^ i would disagree. 37 ERJ's this year. And CRJ fleet staying flat. I would say thats growth...

There is some growth. But not as much as one would suspect given the hiring. Staffing the incoming ERJ will get interesting indeed.

Just read the "peak oil" note on sapa ...

I sincerely believe that OO is one of the best if not the best regional out there. but that doesn't mean that we don't have any challenges ...

How about reserve on the CRJ in LAX?

Most junior LA FO is a June 2015 hire. Most senior reserve has about a year and some change on property. This should change in June however once the 7 700s for AA are all online. For now though, LA is one of the most senior FO bases on the RJ.

I feel that attrition will start to get ugly for us going forward. I saw a ton of SW folks at NGPA and WIA. We have already lost 23 CA for the month and 14 last week. Not to mention all the FO's we are losing to Spirit, VA and JB. We have lost 72 CA and 79 FO's YTD.

Leadership has changed and CC is not JA. SW used to hold the title of a labor friendly airline, but things are changing. Look at the PBS debacle this month. SAPA all but said yeah it screwed up, we will take care of those that complain enough and there isn't anything we can do. There are definitely worse places out there, and we do seem to still be able to get people to the first day of class. But burning pilots out with high credit schedules heading into the busy summer seems like a recipe for disaster. Time will tell.

I don't see how anyone can justify not re-running the bid.
The entire global solution is wrong and the only way to fix it is a redo with the programmed error fixed.
