So, I am looking at leaving a pretty good 135 gig to get into 121.
I know there are a ton of variables regarding the following questions, but would love to hear some educated opinions:
1. How painful would a SMF-LAX or SMF-PDX commute be?
2. With 6mos seniority what kind of efficiency could an FO in LAX expect? (hrs credit for a 3 day trip? 4 day trip?)
3. If QOL is #1, you are bottom of the pile, and you live in SMF... which AC and what base are you shooting for?
Gracias amigos!

There are quite a few commuters doing SMF-LAX. United, Delta, and American are using RJs. Southwest does the route too. There are plenty of flights and it's usually not a problem, but when loads are high, you might have a hard time. SMF-PDX has fewer flights but also fewer commuters.
SFO might be a better option for a base.

Thanks for the input Viper. I thought that might be the case.... Any thoughts regarding trip efficiency?

I agree. LAX would work, but if you can hold SFO (which new hires are getting) I'd go SFO 175. You could probably get away with sitting at home on reserve depending where in SMF you live too.

SkyWest has a rig for trips, so at a minimum it's 4:12 per duty hour away. Hardly comes to that. Average daily credit is between 5-6 depending on seniority and base, so a 3 day could be 15-18 hours etc

Excellent! Much obliged... Sounds decent.

Good stuff! How easy is it to get PM reserve as a new guy? Also, how about long-call (or do they have that?)

We do have LC. It's a 12 hour call out. PM is 9-9 and AM is 4-4, 2 hour call out. It's been a while since I've done the reserve thing but you can usually hold your choice of PM or AM. Hopefully Reserve will be short lived for you with all the hiring...
