Going to throw a wrench in the monotony with a random question, I'm able to start Monday in the RJ class which is four days away. I haven't received any material to study. Am I opening a can of worms by starting so soon without preparing?

You'll have to know emergency items and a few other things, but only by the second week. Do it

You'll want to start studying those Emergencies and Limitations once you can get your hands on one of the packets though, but don't sweat that too much either. You have all of ground school to pass the test if you have trouble the first time around(They literally let you retake it every day until you pass throughout the duration of the ground school).

There's an Indoc test at the end of the first week. They'll teach you everything you need to know for it. The limitations test you'll take the first day of systems which is the second week. Don't wait! With classes as big as they've been you'll want to get in and get your seniority started!

If you're talking about the autothrottle and VNAV, I can only assume you have no experience with mainline narrowbody systems. All I can say is that you are greatly overrating the automation: basic stick/rudder/thrust aptitude is in high and regular demand when we start yelling because it starts doing something weird.
