Could also mean that retiring a Captain with 5 weeks vacation at the top of the pay scale easily pays for a couple pilots at the bottom of the pay scale with two weeks or less vacation.

Yeah, but you're not expecting those guys will leave for free, are you? In order to get anybody interested you need to offer something more than SWAG points. Half the guarantee plus all bennies till age 65 is a minimum if you want any takers at all (look at AA). That's not cheap, and although helpful, it doesn't help the junior guys from furlough all that much.

how much do you have to pay a flight attendant who doesn’t work? And why do you care?

I agree with you right up until the last sentence. It's not cheap, and if it saves even one job, it will have been worthwhile. Hopefully our offer is at least on parity with the AA and JetBlue offers.

We are all Dean now.

They still have benefits, which cost the company money. And that’s why we care.

Money wise it saves 1.5-1.75 FOs. It’s not about how many people are on the seniority list, it’s about how much money they can save.

Actually, those benefits aren’t free. The FAs have to pay for them. Any vacation or company medical benefits are easily offset by giving away trips. If they make what, $60 tfp? And give it all away to people making $20-30 tfp less then them, Im pretty sure it’s cost neutral if not quite beneficial to the company.

look, I just find it humorous when pilots complain that other work groups are jealous of what we negotiate, but get upset when others get a perceived “good deal”. Senior FAs are not the enemy or our problem. We are better than that.

At a time when the company needs more than ever to eliminate inefficiencies, that’s a no brainer.

Forcing a flight attendant to go back to work at $60 TFP and furloughing a junior FA making $35 tfp is not efficient at all 🤷🏻‍♂️ I could be wrong but I don’t see it as a cost at all.

You’re right. Paying people to train and vacation every year and not actually earn the company any money is a solid business plan.
