Go to myseniority.com and it shows who the most junior captain is and how many spots the most junior guy is above you.

I've been the most junior full time Captain at SWA since September 2019 and just want to throw some realism into this thread. I was hired by AirTran in April of 2008 and when I upgraded there were a bit more than 1,000 senior to me that bypassed. I run into guys regularly that express their regret for that decision. When we start upgrading again, which I'm guessing is only months away, upgrade classes will be filled with those pilots for at least a year before anything goes junior to me. By the time pilots junior to me start upgrading, it will fall back to around 12 years for upgrade times.

I love the optimistic projections being floated, but IMO, they just aren't realistic. I hope I'm wrong....

My bet uneducated bet is 10 years per usual. Plus or minus 2.

Looking it up is a PITA (I'll probably look it up Friday because I'll be looking at the displacement carnage)...but junior lances still have their star as they've had no opportunity to bid captain. It's the senior lances that lose their star.

I like a very lean brisket, with ribs, maybe a side of beans and several very cold beverages.

Glad you were able to snag that last spot despite being stuck on the bottom for so long. You and the Mrs. were fantastic people to fly with and I hope you guys are enjoying it out West.

I think that the potential for premium on the FO side will have a big impact on the bypass rate. For me personally, if there is premium available as an FO I’m bypassing until I can hold the schedule I want (around 75% in base/seat). It seems like SWAPA is pushing hard to return to an efficient manning model, will be interesting to see if the company listens.

if the company stays hell bent on suppressing premium then I feel you are right about less bypassers

Yes. Some lances have been lancing for two plus years.

Those lances below the most junior captain are no longer lances. They cannot hold anywhere in the top 3.2% of the FO list. I believe Oakland is still the most junior lance base and recently I flew with a guy that was like 3 from getting cut and he was almost 800 numbers senior to me. Now once you do go through the upgrade you can still do your recurrent and qualifications from the left seat. This will keep you qualified so you don’t have to go through the whole upgrade training. The lance program was almost always more senior then junior captain cause you got best of both worlds. For some lances they would never hold their bidding power (because of age) on vacation because of age 65. Basically please keep your bids at 100% for every domicile so I can get outta Oakland !!!
