My main drivers are that I wanted to hit 415c limits ASAP and make enough to qualify for max LTD payout should the unthinkable happens. I'm happy that I've been able to max out my retirement every single year on the property to the point that even the year I got off probation, I ended up getting a few grand as excess from Profit Sharing. The last PS payout was almost all in cash.
It's also somewhat, in a paranoid way, reassuring that if I were to go out on medical, my LOL/LTD payout would be our plan max.
I also say I'll take the first available, but then I look at some of our players' boards and I can see why they don't want to upgrade even in base, much less commute to the West Coast. They control their schedule, types of trips they want, when they want to work and how much. Add up the totals, and I can totally see why being the plug or very junior captain commuting to the west coast just doesn't seem appealing...
I don't know... I could see the compromise of taking the plug upgrade in base, but to add commuting to it?

It is possible to make enough as an FO to max out your LTD, since it is capped. Especially if you are senior I think it only comes out to 110-115 trips average a month.

Very few 63/64yr olds took VSP. Those guys have maxed out vacation, good seniority, and most would be leaving sick banks on the table. They can work only slightly more than zero and nearly double their income over what VSP offered. I counted LOTS of 57-63yr olds. If I were to make a chart, it would look like a bell curve with a only handful of guys younger than 55.
So, we have our normal allotment of retirements for the next 1-2 years, plus the added benefit of about 500 less Captains. Mandatory retirements in the following years will be less than without the VSP but I expect the numbers will be approximately the same since there are always guys who leave early.

Im not as up to speed on LTD as I should be. Are you saying a FO who hustles and does 140+ TFP’s/month can earn the same on LTD as a captain on LTD who just flew his line?

Well, not even that much, it is 66% of pre-disability earnings, but capped at 150k a year, so if you do the math it’s not to hard to get there at the higher FO pay.

Whoops. Sorry about that Cysco, I didn't see that you posted it first. How do you find that on CWA? Thanks!

Not a lot. But every little bit helps, I also hope that the 12,500 number for pilots is a reasonable number, or even bigger. Interesting to think if the MAX and COVID hadn’t happened we would probably already be at 8 ish year upgrades.
