Assuming that actually happens, how much of a monkey wrench do you think the ETOPS base lock is going to throw into things?

Will most people who want a quick upgrade bid for first available? Or first non-etops available?

I think that the more we are short staffed and have operational chaos, the more junior upgrade goes.

It's not very enticing to commute to the west coast on full/late/cancelled flights, to then be abused as a reserve, when there is unlimited open time available. I believe our short staffing will continue through all of 2022, baring any further COVID disasters.

 

I think people are going to be quiet surprised how fast upgrade is going to come there way. We didn’t just announce expansion of the training center for no reason. This place does not spend money unless it absolutely has to.

an SRC guy 2 yrs a2o said he was trying to convince the company DEN west would be ETOPS. Maybe that will happen. The lock will have to go away eventually. It's not like it cost the company that much they have to lock you for 6 bid periods. ETOPS can be done via a DL

Even with splosive groth, I’m going to bypass. Been in charge on way bigger than the guppy so my ego don’t need it but my lifestyle could benefit from the senior FO thing.

By the (unprovoked) tone of your post, this topic clearly struck a nerve and appears you're sensitive to criticism of the current administration's handling of the pandemic. Fair enough, but If your aim is to credibly defend their actions, I might suggest using counter-points and justification based on facts/data instead of lazy, unresearched emotional attacks.

Free advice, take it or leave it, but the one area we can agree on is the need to return this thread to the OP. For the sake of my good friends at WN, I truly hope those upgrade times come down, I can't imagine jerking gear in the SW system for 10 years. FOs do EVERYTHING over there.

I would take a junior upgrade west. My kids are older, divorce, bla bla bla. Just do it already. I’ll adjust.
