Take a little advice from an old guy with a long resume. In this business you take the FIRST interview, the FIRST class date. You can always go elsewhere later.
But skipping even ONE class could be the difference between a furlough, or staying on property…
between getting the domicile you want or a cross country commute…
between reserve or lineholder…
between working weekends and holidays, or being at home…
between upgrade or stagnation…
Get your number. THEN go do whatever was more important between now and January.

Learn from those who’ve gone before you.

Not yet. Got my CJO Dec 1. Missed a call from HR about the background checks and thought something was wrong but it was just a standard, "do you have any questions?" But they were still working through it.

Hi all. To add to this thread, I’m an 8 year regional guy who recently lost my medical.
Really interested in the Southwest instructor position being advertised as Southwest was my first choice major anyway. Anyone have any insights?
I read somewhere that SWAPA was grieving the direct-entry, full-time position so
A) Would I be unpopular with classmates/colleagues in this role?
B) Would I get rolled in to the general pilot group if the role goes away (assuming I can get my medical back!)
Any insights would be extremely helpful!! TIA.

There’s a thread in here somewhere about the instructor job. Try searching there to learn what it’s like and hopefully find some contacts too.

If you have min quals, I think they mostly want people who won't quit when offered a CJO at another airline that's offering CA upgrades in attractive bases at the 1 yr point. A friend of mine got A320 CA at LAX at United after 1 yr. SWA really doesn't want anyone who might consider that to be a good deal.

Good god, they need to get over their egos. Want to retain people in this environment? Then you’d better open that checkbook because a good proportion are going to bail. For someone junior it’s an absolute no brainer.
