Yeah bigger paychecks, less workdays, better stability, more schedule flexibility, better QOL, more productive schedules, better retirement…but I guess I could chase that WB FO seat status and LCR that I don’t really care about. Super dumb I guess.

I don’t care if you believe me. Enjoy your 5 day pairings, 7 layers of PBS, 18 day reserve schedules, hoping for 80hr credit and 38B in debt. I didn’t really think it was all worth it for a WB FO slot…but that’s just my opinion

Happy for you and your pilot group.

With that said the constant “my airline is better” arguments are lame and it needs to end. We are all just expenses on a balance sheet. If you are at any of the major airlines I believe you will have a great career and what works for one person does not mean it works for another. If you are at a regional and happy then you are doing great too.

I know you were just responding to another poster but congratulations on making a great decision for you.

Looking forward to the Airline versus Air Line versus Airlines discussions to stop.

All I said was I left and I was happy with my decision. He essentially said I was dumb for doing that. He’s also on SW and other airline threads touting the awesomeness of AA.

It wasn’t really a “ballsy” move, IMO it was the smart one. Especially if you value stability and can overlook the shiny object of massive retirements. You can look at almost any 25 yr period at AA and see the bumpy ride pilots have had.

Amen to that. It's just a job, not a religion

Doesn’t sound like leaving AA is dumb for him. SW culture isn’t perfect. But I think we definitely have the most chill and laid back pilot group of all the majors. And that’s important to some people. Of all my friends at UA, DL, and SW, the consensus place that none one is jealous of or would ever want to work is AA. I just remember going to DFW at my regional and seeing how miserable and ****ed off the AA guys always looked. But hey, to each their own.

So were you checked out on 73 then went to WN? What happens when that happens? Do you have reduced training for SWA if you already have the type?

Generally you do the full training program. Only difference is a few items would not need to be checked on the ride since you already have the type. And the training will be very easy, BTDT.

There is a rarely used FAR provision to allow for a short course for people coming from another airline on the same equipment. But I've only seen airlines bother with that when they knew they were hiring a large number of such folks in a short time-frame. I think the course may have to be customized based on where the pilots are coming from, so not something they would do for a few stray cats here and there. I know one or two regionals did it when flying was getting moved around and lots of people were chasing the flying.

Flew the bus at AA, already had my 73 type though (previous job). I didn’t have to do the oral and my check was a PC, although it wasn’t much different a checkride then the type.

Same footprint at SW as the full type but I had some extra days off during the oral.
