I want to give the benefit of the doubt to our interviewers—the pilot side anyway. That being said, I want to know who picks the candidates for an interview with how and why. My strong suspicion is still that HR has its hands waaaay into the pot with too much sway over the final result. The Chief’s power to intervene has been removed and it’s ultimately HR’s choice. That alone speaks volumes to me.

I think your opinion is shared by many.

The chiefs still make the ultimate decision. They reaffirmed that in recent comms.

I hope so, because maybe around 2018 I had a buddy going through the interview. I went to the PHX Chief with rec letter and resume in hand just prior to the Chief’s Board or whatever it’s called.

I was advised by the chief that their power to overturn HR is gone.

Maybe they changed back…

My Uncle, a former Air Force Fighter Pilot, told me many times…that as a trained fighter pilot…he never missed an opportunity to keep his mouth shut… .

I have my interview in December and just constantly see TBNT after TBNT on FB. Know someone who was super qualified and did interview prep also get a TBNT. I don’t get why they’re being so selective from the interviews. Bringing in all these candidates and spending all this time/money to only give CJOs out to 25% of interviewees is very different from typical airline hiring

Generally, I think we all agree with you, and sadly, none of us know what's going on with the hiring team. I feel that in the past, if you made it to the in-person event, it was your job to lose; however, at least in my case, I had a video call beforehand with, I think, a chief and an HR. Perhaps this weeded out more applicants before they even arrived. Once you came in, the agenda included a logbook review, a 7-minute scenario, and a tour. I am not sure how they are doing things now. Good luck to you.

Another TBNT here from October interview. The panel was not what I expected (not as friendly as I thought it would be) but I still felt it went pretty good. Took them nearly three weeks to email. They did call my references so I initially thought that was a good sign.
