it's not the applicants fualt its the company not learning their lesson.
Solely blaming new people for any incidents we've had is straightttttt garbage. Hell, take any aviation safety course and the first thing they'll generally say to you is "Blame is the enemy of safety." There's two of us up there for a reason. "Time to intervene," an extra day of CRM training for recurrent next year, and the new procedures rolling out Jan 1 showed us what the real problem was. Could we be more selective in hiring and standards now? Sure. Does any level of FO experience allow the PIC to not monitor the damn airplane when they're not flying? Helllll no

At a Part 135 carrier where captain upgrade is at 1,500 hours total time, yes.

I think hiring people with diverse experience levels is actually a good thing. Not bagging on anyone's friends/squadron mates, but the people that do our hiring generally do an excellent job screening candidates. Some of my high time friends have also been trying to get interviewed and can't get a call. I assume there is a reason. We often don't know the full story or don't care to see past that friendship. Over the years I have learned to not try and make sense of it.

I think yanking the CJO's due to "not being competitive" was BS. I have no problem with low time or high time guys getting hired as long as they can get through the interview and training without their hands being held. I've flown with complacent senior FO's and brand new FO's from SKW who started flying after I was hired at WN. I don't know if extensive IOE is needed for every single new hire but standards are standards and I'm glad that if you get to a certain point, they'll just tell you that "maybe this job isn't for you". I think the new callouts are ridiculous but they pay me a dump truck full of cash every month, so I'll do what they want and then go home.

Agreed, the CJO yanking was absolutely BS.

I was thrown in the left seat at 2000TT with 5 hours in the airplane with a full boat right after my .299 10 years ago.

Yeah 135 is a different animal (especially if there is no ARGUS / WYVRN mins) especially with it being gutted after COVID when the airlines were hiring like crazy.

I understand their frustration though. Known 900 turbine folks with 121 fails getting interviews. That would insult me if I were a regional captain or something. So it does seem that the preference is real and that certain groups are in fact getting overlooked.

No failures.

Currently PIC on the B737NG/MAX on a Foreign 121 equivalent.

Interviewed mid October, 25 interviewees that morning, 4-5 got the CJO a few days later, about 10 days later everyone got the TBNT email except three of us, 23 days later one got the CJO call and the other guy and I TBNT email.

Very disappointed with the outcome, thankful for the opportunity, I would’ve been a great place to finish the rest of my flying career.

Congratulations to the few guys/gals getting the CJOs.
