Over two hours on hold. 0600 they call to inform of the 1900 DH back to base followed with a sheepish, "are you still at the airport?". Where else would we be??? At least I am allowed to find my own way home all day long on my day off. No hotel offered.

Those crews aren’t real smart then. I too, was stranded and couldn’t get ahold of CS through phone, or email. I talked to the CP on duty, who was easy to get ahold of, and after 2 hours waiting at the airport, I was in a hotel room for the night. He did tell me that since I was paying for the room on my own, it was a bit of a gamble getting reimbursed, but Spirit has never balked on reimbursements, that I’m aware of. I talked to a union rep that said that’s BS. There is no gamble and I will get reimbursed, no issues.

Any crews who spent the whole night in an airport have nobody to blame but themselves. Go get a freaking room and expense it.

Did he facilite getting the room per 5.A.13?

I have not had good luck with this. It really should be as easy as

“yeah sorry they are swamped. You’re in TPA right? Head to any hotel you like and I’ll send them the company card when you get there. Don’t forget to expense your transportation. Also file an NCC. Sorry for the trouble.”

Have you seen crew rooms full of top seniority CAs sleeping in a lounger because they don’t want to drop $50 on a hotel and a shower for their morning commute. The senior CAs seem to be the cheapest

That would be nice. However, during a SHTF event, rooms can be hard to find - a better one would be if our contract lodging company would be able to hand out rooms from their list - even if I had to pay for it.

negative. He told me there was no guarantee to get reimbursed. Union rep said otherwise. CP advised I wait around longer to hear back from CS, which I did not do.

That sucks and I’ve had similar results. It’s contractual but vague. No definition of facilitate.

Solution: SHTF, you call CS after you are done, and if within 30 minutes, or an hour, you don't have a hotel, you are allowed call a hotel from the approved list to see if they have a room. If so you get yourself there, and they take a picture of your ID and charge the company CC. Yeah, some work on our side, and some trust from the company, but I really don't think most of us would rather sit in the airport waiting for CS to unscrew itself, and I am really sure none of us would try to travel to some random city during a meltdown just to get a free hotel night....

with meltdowns all but guaranteed to happen we need better language more than scope.....

Granted I am new as the freshly driven snow here, but why wouldn’t the company reimburse you? The way I see it they can reimburse and keep the wheels turning or they could have pilots out fatigued all over the system due to trying to sleep in some random airport.

It doesn’t make sense to me and I would venture to guess the ones that do get reimbursed outweigh the ones that don’t.

I can’t imagine not being reimbursed once following the proper channels, contacting the CP office, and finding your own hotel if necessary.

Short of booking a stay in the Presidential Suite at the Four Seasons, I think it’s a very safe assumption of reimbursement

Even IF they denied it, it’s why we have an NCC process.
