United v. Spirit

Yeah, our QOL is sub par at best if you ask me. I like working here but I'm tired of hearing how great our QOL is from guys that have no idea how great the legacies and other airlines have it.

Are these things that other majors are actively trying to get? “Wow, look at that part of Spirit’s contract, let’s see if we can get that too”. It doesn’t seem to me any contract comparison publications ever include ANY parts of our contract as wins. Maybe they’re missing something, but I doubt it.

What this guy said…..
our hold times for scheduling are ridiculous. The fact we are expected to sit around the airport for hours to find out we are released is ludicrous. This contract still has a lot to be fixed. We don’t have industry leading anything except our turn over rate on the ramp, inflight and ops. We need 20% raise just to get even

It’s a ULCC - better then a regional? Yes - but this is not a legacy by far in all aspects. Especially with regards to FO pay.
The new normal - Rescheduled into a new trip and land with no hotel reservation and wait hours for a hotel confirmation.

Haha. This is true.
We want Delta rates….BUT we also want to keep all of our flying in house, no code sharing, and no regional feed.
I hate this “we want what other airlines have” because it works both ways. Management can say “sure, here are some things we want that are standard at those places you keep mentioning”
I know what our contract is and I want to negotiate a contract that provides for across the board gains for all pilots here without any, I repeat, without ANY givebacks or concessions on the nuggets we enjoy here.
I just can’t stand the tunnel vision people have here when acting like our contract is simply Section 3 and forgets everything else.

Think about this- a 5 year Spirit captain is getting paid $53 less per hour than a United 5 year airbus captain. At our min reserve guarantee of 72 hours (which is also below industry average) is $3,816 per month and nearly $46,000 per year. You like to work a little extra and credit 85 hours per month? That’s now a pay difference of $4,505 per month and $54,000 per year. Are you really willing to die on the “we have the best QOL in the industry” hill with the rest of the cheerleaders at this cost?
We have the lowest CASM of any airline running the 320s and Spirit loves to brag about it during their investor calls. Management wants to grow us to 300 airplanes and 5,000 pilots by 2027, and bigger beyond that. Put on your big boy pants and demand industry standard pay when negation season comes around. Wouldn’t you rather brag about our great QOL and pay while your sitting in United’s jump seat?
