Part of us “not being a regional” also requires big boy pants; which includes getting your own cab at 30 minutes, calling the CP if no hotel, and self releasing at 30 minutes if you can’t get ahold of scheduling and sending and email to them saying you’re dutying off and will be contactable again at whatever time
Cinco- can't wait for you to land balls deep in an IROP. The kind where cancellations have been happening for 6 hours already and there are no rooms anywhere, taxi stand line is 1/4 mile long and no Ubers to be found. Oh and when you call the CP they say they can't help you. Ask me how I know...

Retired ABX here, never worked for Spirit or UAL. Never heard of Concur, issue was having some CP/ACP approve my submission, which was a bit complex for my overall assignment. Another less complex reimbursement close to pay period check cutting was approved immediately, and got check within a few days.

That sounds like an awful day...but do you think crews from any other airline in the same IROP were able to magically find a hotel in a sold out city or cut to the front of that taxi line?

Actually yes. United you go to a 4 or 5 star hotel of your choice and expense it. No questions asked. And I’m sure in most cities the top tier hotels meaning the Ritz Carlton Four Seasons types had rooms. Problem is those aren’t in the hotel connections portfolio and our crew scheduling can’t or won’t do anything on their own outside of hotel connections. CPs have been little help in my experience.

Heck even if you go to your normal overnight hotel and just don’t feel it’s acceptable that day to you you can go to any 4 or 5 star and expense it no questions. In the United CBA

Spirit- wake up the CP and see what happens.

I’ve flown through some of our more recent meltdowns and always found a room and expensed it. Never has every hotel been sold out in the city. You may need to take a longer Uber but you can usually find something. When we are melting down the CPs are all usually available to call or text. I shot a text to one and was told the expense would be approved. Took less than 10 minutes and was in an Uber to the Renaissance in FLL with the FO and got paid back less than a week later. Got to keep the points too.

That’s good and how it should work. However not in our CBA.

Also if it’s not a meltdown and hotel connections just didn’t book a room I’ve found solution time to be longer and more arduous

In an IROP situation if nothing is available you wouldn’t catch any grief expensing a 5 star hotel at Spirit. I’ve never done it but I’ve been told get your own hotel and expense it by CP, never said anything about price exceptions.

I get what you’re saying but if they don’t have a room (meltdown or not) and the CP tells me to book my own I’m not going to say no just to sit around the airport and possibly sleep there because it isn’t spelled out in the CBA. Maybe they can get better language in the next contract that spells it out though.

As for dealing with not having a room during a normal day, it’s happened a few times to me on reserve. It’s a pain but it’s always been resolved as quickly as one would expect. I’m ok with waiting as long as I’m talking to someone and progress is being made. Sitting on hold for an hour just to be told they don’t know anything yet is beyond infuriating and I’ll book my own room just to save the headache even if I don’t get reimbursed.

My experience has not been the same when calling the CP. these were non meltdown scenarios though. More like no hotel booked and the normal hotel on the pairing is sold out and a convention in town. Told them specifically where there were rooms that I had found but they didn’t want to just make it happen.

I have a non related question. What’s the difference between lake affect and lake effect?
