if this goes through. might be a more even playing field and ultra low cost airlines would lose their advantage
Here’s my thought maybe got off the damn couch and get a little exercise instead of more government regulations. I’m by no means a fit person but haven’t been on an airline that I don’t fit in the seats. 6’2 220 so not a small person.

If you can’t fit in an airline seat I hear greyhound is nice. If my bag is 6oz overweight have to pay extra but some obese person can occupy a 1/3 of my seat and that’s okay.

I agree with you, unfortunately our society is glorifying obesity and saying it’s okay.

heck, millennials are now even shaming doctors for telling them to loose weight…it’s sad.

I agree with halon. Even bill Maher shamed Victoria’s Secret for promoting obesity. Do you even 2022 bro? See you in sensitivity training

Reminds me of an analogy about when our debt ceiling (US) was raised.

-Your toilet is overflowing out of control and your septic contents are now quickly filling the ground floor of your home. Do you:

a: Call a plumber to fix the sewage problem
b: Call a carpenter to raise the ceiling to create more room?

Only here would the solution to obesity be stronger chairs.

Obesity in the US is a huge problem. The folks on our airplanes and in airline terminals, including crew are a fairly representative cross section, and it doesn’t inspire optimism for the future. The past 50+ years of marketing industrial foods and eating them every waking hour has become engrained into our culture. It’s shameful. Also recall that obesity makes one far more susceptible to death from covid. Imagine if there was a nation wide effort to educate and change that cultural insanity rather than the insanity of lockdowns, masking and ineffective vaccines that they forced down our throats for the last 3 years.

How dare you make a common sense argument? And also, how dare you expect people to actually admit that they need to change something that goes against their desires? How dare you?!

Boy, this thread went off the rails quick.

I find it odd a bunch of Spirit pilots complaining about a culture that won’t get off the couch to better their lives. Kind of sounds like how that same pilot group treated picketing events last section 6. Don’t worry, I’m
sure this round will be waaay different.

You do realize there are at least as many pilots here who were NOT on property for the last picketing event as there are pilots who were. Literally half the pilot group was not even hired when section 6 opened last time around.

I was disappointed about the turnout last time too, but yes it’s a whole other ball game this time. Talk to junior pilots about something other than where they have their apps in.

Two thoughts on that.

1. The people disappointed with contract 2010 thought the same thing of the large number of pilots hired from 2012-2018. Well, we know how that turned out.

2. I guess we will soon find out the resolve of all these new pilots you mentioned with our scheduled picketing events in LAS and MCO on Sept 1st.

I hope I’m wrong, but whether it’s weight loss or getting out to a demonstration of unity, it’s hard to change human nature. The sad part is, the current culture is all about what’s in it for me and instant gratification. In both cases, there’s a lot in it for you, but neither happens quick, so ahh maybe next time.
