Okay, great. That proves my point that being a new hire at Spirit doesn't equal zero Union experience and an ability to work/deal with a pilot group and mgmt.

Not sure how you can tie the misfortunes of two airlines to the leadership abilities of one union volunteer. I agree, there's uncertainty right now and I'm definitely concerned. But what's done is done. We have no choice but to press forward. And now the weight of this entire pilot group is on Ackerman's shoulders. He has much to prove and I'm sure he knows that.

The weight of the entire pilot group is primarily on the status reps. The status reps direct the MEC officers. Don't reverse it like Amongero did. There has been no change to the status reps. Stay calm, carry on.

I'm familiar with how the ALPA structure works, as I've served at my previous carrier. There most likely will be changes to the status reps if some of the current status reps move into MEC leadership positions. Also, if the MEC chairman doesn't feel the weight of the pilot group on his shoulders, and enormous pressure to lead and get it right, than I have no confidence. I stand by my previous post.

Well, let's put it like this. We all carry the weight of this pilot group on our shoulder together. Now that our voice is being heard, lets work together.

No attacking the MEC, no dissenting, just move on. If that isn't the dumbest thing I've heard today... You've been knifing the MEC in the back since you were lucky enough to get hired here.
Fact is you and your ilk already did the damage by executing the MEC over some trivial heartburn, according to the fast read. The real reason is more about power and vengeance I suspect. It's a clown move from the herb days, and we'll all pay even while you tell us it to move on, back the MEC, avert your gaze or whatever.
So run along, log into your other 5 screen names and keep stirring some stuff.

I can't help but be a little nervous about the timing on this. I have to say, however, that it seemed that outside of a small circle of guys, the old MEC leadership was not liked by most of the line guys. They were viewed as a "good ole boys" club which was not interested in communicating with the pilots. They were viewed as a group that thought of themselves as the "ruling class".

I suspect that small circle is going to rise up and fight this. I just hope this doesn't turn into a world class sh*t show that jeopardizes contract negotiations.

Nothing but the truth.
Poor timing, glimpse of the future what this mess is.

Honestly I haven't paid much attention to this but what exactly was so bad that they got kicked out for?

I think this change is positive, but too close to call yet.
This will show in the attitude of the NC in the coming months.
I prefer not to comment on the character of our reps, but rather on what they accomplish.
Did the recently recalled MEC officers support a negotiating plan which needed help?
The new MEC may have a more optimistic/aggressive view of what/how we should be negotiating.
We can do much better than focusing on +30% pay and keeping most rules!
What good does a quick signing do, if what we sign is a work in progress?
Anyone think we will do better in 5 years?
Job protection, retirement, must be addressed, before too late.

IF NOT NOW WHEN?

What I learned on Tuesday at the MEC meeting:

Article 8 (Section 8?) proceedings to remove from office against Jim Ackerman (the new MEC Chairmen) for attempting to have Doug Poletti disciplined by taking the private conversations between him and a Doug to Spirit HR and the Chief Pilot's office (Chris Russing). How can we trust this guy who turned a pilot over to management?

Jason Leonard has been taping all phone conversations with members. Jesus, is that even legal?

The negotiating committee was consulted and specifically recommended against this course of action and supported the Council 18 rep position that the switch should be made at the next election cycle when Chris and Paul indicated they would not seek re-election.

No other committee chairmen were consulted.

The debate over the recall was moved to a closed session on a motion by Jim Ackerman and a party line vote by the status reps. This denied Chris and Paul the opportunity to defend against the accusations in front of the membership. Subsequently, the claims went un-substantiated since they were no longer in office.

They were recalled over not running meetings the right way and hurt feelings. The best interests of the pilot group were not considered.

Widespread belief that this will damage the negotiating committee in their effort to get us a contract. Bendo dancing a jig.

It appears that all of the pilots they had lined up to take the vice-chairmen and secretary-treasurer positions have declined the offer.

Didn't go on Wednesday.
