Soooooo the MEC chair is a LAS FO rep that has been on property 2.5 years? 4 months before the contract is up in the most favorable negotiating environment ever. Don't get all nuclear. I'm just asking a question. Nothing against the guy, personally, I don't know him which is why again, nothing personal, I did not vote for him. Can someone please explain how this helps us. Aside from the childish insults concerning arrogance etc etc.

I don't see how it hurts us. Just because someone only has 2.5 years on property at one airline, doesn't mean they don't have union leadership experience at other properties. This isn't a regional airline where guys are getting hired with no airline, union, bankruptcy, downgrade, furlough, or negotiating experience whatsoever. Pilots being hired today, generally speaking, have been through it all. I'm indifferent as to whether this helps or hurts us. It is what it is. And what's done is done. Time will tell.

The only thing that concerns me is the timing. We appeared to be going down a good path with the amendable date of our contract just around the corner. But what's done is done. I don't think a shakeup of the MEC leadership will have an immediate impact on the committee structure. I doubt anybody is going to throw a tantrum over this. I believe cooler heads will prevail. This is typical ALPA politics. This stuff happens from time to time at all ALPA properties, and usually at the most inopportune times. And now we have no choice but to move forward as a unified front. I just hope that this political shakeup doesn't compromise the position we seemed to be in.

As far as timing goes, don't worry. That fast focused contract idea was just a frantic effort by Matyas to not get fired.

Well I personally do not know about any of that, and am not going to call people out who volunteer their own time for the betterment of the pilot group. I also don't think that I can do it better. I am happy with being a dues paying member in good standing, and a P2P volunteer just to stay involved. What's done is done. We don't have much choice but to move forward. I just worry, that's all. In the meantime, I'm just going to pop a bag of popcorn and watch this all play out.
Mike, the MEC leadership has not changed. Remember, it is the reps. that make policy. The officers get their marching orders from the reps. Unfortunately Amongero and Hopkins raped the ALPA protocol and started making policy on their own.

Checkmate! Didn't see that coming huh? Welcome to the NEW Spirit Airlines! The process worked as it should have. Now, full throttle ahead...

The timing for this is perfect. It doesn't show a divided pilot group. It sets the company off balance with their little back room private deals they had with these MEC officers.
Im guessing that Amongero and Hopkins will be calling crew scheduling to make themselves available for flying tomorrow .

Lots of celebrations around the system tonight.
