The latest vacancy bid result that posted this week showed the most junior captain as a 9/2012 hire making his time from new hire to award 2.5 years. I'm not saying that it's going to stay that way going forward, it's just that the upgrade is currently not 5 years at present.

True. I know another guy at Delta that recently got awarded Captain, and he is being there just less than 8 years.
In my seemingly continued efforts to keep our MEC power structure unhappy with me…………WRONG. The assertion that our work rules are the result of a strike is just plain WRONG!
In general, the vast majority of our work rules, QOL, etc were either part of the existing work rules from pre 1999, or were implemented in C1999, or were the result of LOA's made outside of Section 6.

Not disagreeing with you, neither do I have an agenda to proclaim.
In an effort to get more folks involved, I credited the previous work done by y'all.
The benefits of which, regardless if it were the MEC, strike vote, etc., we are ALL currently enjoying and therefore have a responsibility to protect.
When it comes to a union contract, my belief has always been that, the rules are meant to protect us from management's indiscretions, not from each other.
If a rule does not pertain to me, or benefit me personally, I still support it.
If I disagree with it, I try to change it, but still respect it.
Let's vote on what we need addressed in the upcoming negotiations.
Breaking rules we do not agree with, undermines our rules and efforts.

It is five years for a pilot hired now. It does not apply to someone hired in 2012. If you are hired now, there are 1150 pilots here ahead of you. Give or take a few. That means roughly speaking, you would need another 1150 hired after you to upgrade. We are only hiring 225 - 250 a year. 1150/225 equals about 5 years.

Not everyone is taking an upgrade. Some for QOL, some just because they aren't CA material, some for other, personal reasons.
There are a few CAs who have numbers at other airlines getting ready to make the decision to stay or leave. Some may leave.
But, most importantly, just because nothing has been announced regarding further expansion, doesn't mean it's not in the works. Not saying 2.5 years to CA will happen again, but I'd be real surprised to see a "legacy-like" upgrade schedule here.

Is it just me or does it seem like scheduling is having a bit of a rough day? I've called in at three different times throughout the day and have been as low as number 31 in line. Just hung up.

Who cares how long the upgrade is with the right contract. FOs at legacies don't care as much about the upgrade because they are already making spirit captain money in the right seat.

That's only half true. Once we make gains in the next contract, it will be that much better to be in the left seat and there after only 2.5 years. Who wouldn't want to be making better money if given the choice? And if we're being honest, there's reasons other than money to want to be in the left seat. We've all met them.
