Its just business
Looking @ this article, it seems Spirit wins the award for best run airline in terms of a business in 2Q2011.
Lowest CASM in the industry (9.7 cents)
Lowest CASM ex fuel in the industry (5.41 cents)
Highest profit growth in the industry (69%, $10M -> $16.9M)
Spirit also has the 3rd highest load factor (85.9%) coupled with the 2nd highest growth (27.3% increase in ASM's), so clearly there are still plenty of folks who choose to forgo premium service for lower costs.

I don't know much about how the stock market works. But it appears that spirit stock is going up because someone is buying it up. Hostile take over anyone?

"Now trading around $11.49, Spirit Airlines has declined even more, as the initial public offering was originally projected to be as high as $16 a share. Recent numbers for Spirit Airlines are all red: down more than 8 percent for the week. Spirit Airlines is trading well below its 20, 50 and 200 day moving averages. There is a short float of 4.30 percent. Insider transactions are a negative 92.94 percent. This is most likely insiders cashing out from the initial public offering.
As an ultra discount airline, Spirit has very thin margins, in every meaning of the word. The average fare is only $82, according to Dow Jones. Fee income provides a huge portion of earnings. This translates into an operating margin or about 11 percent and a profit margin of about 10 percent This results in Spirit Airlines flying through its cash. In only one year, 2009, did it have any amount of free cash flow."
I don't know very much about finance either but are the investors dumping all the stocks??

Where did that come from? The last trade on Yahoo Finance shows $15.63....

Most of the big players that received stock in the IPO got restricted shares...they can't be sold for a period of time to protect the stock itself.

We'll all know more once the Q3 2011 results come out. They will be available on 10/27/2011 at 1300 Eastern from the SEC or through your brokerage. Personally, I wouldn't EVER buy airline stock, however I do wish we would have negotiated some in our contract. I would have dumped it once the technicals looked as though it was topping out near a possible 52 week high and moved the money into some quality stock and ETF's.
