I've got nothing for the hotel, laundry or anything like that. But, the actual training I feel is top notch.
Now, USAF C-130 training, nine months long, plenty of 12+ hour days, PT daily, intense pre briefs, rollicking debriefs AND you get the joys of a five mile run on Friday mornings. Then, the joys of two more months of training after you get to your base!
I'll take the six weeks or so of Spirit training any day!!
At least the Instructors at Spirit are really nice!

But compared to other 121 operations? I've been through 5 at this point, and I can honestly say that this was the most stressful and unpleasant ground school experience I've ever slogged through. The 10 hour days were (still are) a wasted effort; anything after 4pm was in one ear and out the other, which was too bad, because there was good information there for cargo and military guys with little to no prior passenger operation experience. There was no time to decompress, no time to build camaraderie with the rest of your class, no time to study for the next day; you were simply wiped out each day coming back from the schoolhouse. ESPECIALLY if you relied on hotel transportation for a ride. I can't remember how many times we were still waiting nearly an hour after class for pickup.
All this to "save money" because look, we cut ground school by two days! but largely irrelevant as one ends up waiting for days or a week or more for the next segment of training to begin.
Compared to Little Rock? Yeah, this would have seemed like a vacation. Compared to Southern Air (of all places I'd name?) this was a nightmare. Compared to my experience at Boeing when transitioning to the 400???
Now THAT was how ground school should be run. Outstanding operation, most pleasant and enjoyable experience in my career.
We have a long way to go here at Spirit.

Yeah, comparing Spirit training to military training (even Air Force :P) is a no-brainier. I went through Nav School in the Marines, and compared to that, this was cake.

Completely disagree. Recommendations do in fact make a BIG difference. I've been here for just over a year, during which time I've written four letters. All four received a phone call from SF within a week or two of submission.
Although I suppose it could also just be a coincidence, it's been my experience that letters carry a lot of weight around here.

Not too hot to which extent: number hired/offered the job or in terms of quality of candidates?
