Are we gettin' trolled? It's a PIC type, which means Pilot in command. The pilot in command is usually the Captain. The Captain flies from the left seat. Simple enough for ya?

PIC usually sits on the left. Nothing preventing the PIC sitting on the right. When the ATP law kicked in, my airline did "pic types" for FO's from the right seat. I just find it strange that spirit is under the impression that you have to sit in the left seat to get it done.

Recently applied. Qualifications:
4 year degree, cfi etc, atp, 3000 total with 737 time and type. What are the chances or 4000 is set stone?

4000 is pretty much set in stone and is a low end on the current hiring. Average new hires are 7000+ recently. There are obviously some exceptions, but those just that, exceptions to the rule. Don't let it stop you from trying, just being honest.

The fact that it's a PIC type versus an SIC type has no bearing on the seat position upon which the applicant sits. Our training program is archaic and needs to change. When I addressed this issue with our POI he acknowledged the issue but changing the manual and getting it approved costs money. Right now we're having a hard enough time putting pilots and FA's into the right airplanes at the right times and locations to worry about rewriting the training manual. Plus, Uri thinks his way is the ONLY way and I don't believe very receptive to change. So, in the mean time, learn all the flows for both seats, do the ride from the left, and then dump all that info at your LOFT and try not to get too confused on the line for the first 25 hours. It really does suck (like the Crowne Plaza in FLL or the Galleria in IAH) but it is what it is.

Who cares how they do it... I don't think we ever had a guy in my class brought this issue up. The instructors said, we need to know the CA and FO flows, and our Type ride would be done from the left seat. That was the end of that.

Internal recs? IMO that would be worth a lot more than how much TT time you have.

Recommendations do nothing. Been here more than 10 years and recommended a buddy of mine ONCE. They never called him. Very qualified person.
Just through your name in the hat and hope that stars are aligned the right way.

I had ~3600 hours when I first applied, 2000 of which were heavy international, 500 of which were PIC. Didn't hear a peep until I broke 4000 hours. My next job fair I had ~4100 hours, got a call within two weeks.

A friend of mine was at my first job fair; 6000 hours, all RJ, all SIC. He's six months ahead of me on the seniority list.

Sorry man, unless you're an EmbryO, that 4000 hour is pretty much set.

Keep applying; you never know if they're gonna change it, or why, but I wouldn't be sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring. I'd be out on the line getting those hours.

Completely disagree. Recommendations do in fact make a BIG difference. I've been here for just over a year, during which time I've written four letters. All four received a phone call from SF within a week or two of submission.

Although I suppose it could also just be a coincidence, it's been my experience that letters carry a lot of weight around here.
