They are already feeling the labor pinch. Mins lowered to 2,000 total. When the training program gets bogged down with replacements for attrition instead of growth pilots they will really feel it. Then when these guys require 100 hrs of OE because they only have 500hrs of 121 it'll get worse. Let's face it the bus is easy once you know it but hard for someone with little 121 and little jet. If they wanted an extensive and expensive training program to train button pushers like most Airbus operators in
the third world it could work but they don't want that. This training program is designed for those with a good amount of 121 experience.
That's why this grievance the instructors have is a huge huge deal. If they have to expand the program for larger classes to maintain growth and keep up with the massive attrition it requires more instructors. Hiring more instructors requires taking more guys off the line making staffing worse unless they can use these non seniority ground instructors all the way through CSIs. That helps them immensely and frees up the instructors to do more sim training because of the growth and now attrition.
Why do you think the instructors are actually being threatened to drop the grievance. Using those ground instructors is a cornerstone in the plan to keep us growing but also not give us a contract because they can keep up with attrition.
You did notice they put out an invite in November for line pilots to apply for flight instructor positions yet no one has been hired. That's because someone realized taking more guys offline would be more expensive and more importantly hurt staffing. So they came up with the idea to hire more ground instructors and use them all the way through CSIs instead of more flight instructors.
JS put in every solicitation email that even though he's begging for you to pick up a trip we don't have a staffing problem. You know what that means? He knows we have a staffing problem.

I was one of two non-121 guys in my class. It was harder for us two than the other guys/gals in the class that were coming from regionals. They were basically just getting a different type while we were also being indoctrinated into the 121 world. Both of us had extensive 91, 135, and 91k experience and multiple types but it was still harder and it is a fact that the non-121 guys do have a higher failure rate. It's not impossible but plan to be studying a bit more.

Only 22 pilots left for other airlines in 2015. Most were waiting to see how the contract was going to go before updating apps. Now that we all know its not going to be wrapped up quickly, the attration rate will go up.

That is why we need 100% retro pay. Then the company would stop playing these games designed to stall the progress of the new contract for as long as possible.
The company believes there is an economic advantage for them to drag out negotiations. 100% retro pay gives the company a large incentive to get this done ASAP.

The 'Ole Red Carpet is probably the cheapest, as long as you are already immune to anything communicable through: paper-thin walls, bed sheets (prepare for pubes), fluid (bring crocs for the shower), air (you can talk to your neighbor through the vents)...and you don't have anything you don't want be stolen from the parking lot. Otherwise its great!
Oh and prepare for other highball tenants to look at you like you are on fire when walking through the grounds in uniform.

During negotiations nothing is ever easy. Folding isn't the answer either.

We hired 22 a month I think so that's two entire classes to put it in perspective. January already saw several more. 2016 will be much higher if we either don't have a quality contract or 51% turn out to be spineless and we ratify something lack luster that we have to work under for 7+ years.

They will only agree to ANYTHING if they have no choice. No "good" deal will be made outside of the 30 day cooling off period. Once we make it that far, the nc, mec, and membership need to hold the line and force the good deal. This is the only time we will have leverage over the company. We blew it last time.
