30 Airbus
4 777
4 787

crews:

340 Airbus
180 WB

total about 520 slots plus retirements 380? = 900 to be hired in 12 months minimum. I see junior captain going VERY junior in EWR and/or SFO.
Aren't those 17 buses coming in 2018 the rest of the Chinese planes announced last year? It should be 17+30 Airbus coming.

4 in the remaining months of 2017, 13 in 2018. Im just going with the optimistic high end of the new rumor which was 40 for a total of 57 more.

If so that is some breathtaking growth. No wonder their playing their cards close to their vest.

Not to mention the 5 day work week if you're commuting and having to constantly tell the wife/significant other "I'll probably be home, but...."

Most guys have let the ego part of the job go and want QOL. As long as those big jets pay co-pilots to nap and slash check points... expect the 160 kt guppies to go junior

Excellent analysis. Every month I look at 737/320CA (and 756CA in the couple bases I can hold it) and every month I say "no thanks". Life's too easy on the widebodies and I would even be willing to say my paycheck is the same, if not a little better. Even if it were less, how much more work is one doing, how much more time from home, to get that extra $.. and is it worth it?

I know of a few guys that just needed that fourth stripe. More power to them. One had never been a 121 CA before and wanted to be the king. Whatever floats your boat. Me personally it's about days off and money. The perfect balance is on the fleets that happen to have bunk beds.

There's a reason almost every WB FO can be a captain on any equipment except WB CA. The balance between money and time off is nearly impossible to match.

I plan on narrow body captain till I retire.. father died of a brain tumor and neurologist said she sees a lot of wide body international pilots with brain tumors. She says domestic is much safer and wear sunscreen. So has nothing to do with "wanting the fourth stripe" I just dont want to put my body through that.

No but the radiation can be absorbed through your skin to your brain. Don't believe me if you don't want but she gave me plenty of sources to verify what she told me. Boeing knows about it, FAA knows about it. Flying in general is bad but up at the poles its REALLY bad. Sunscreen can help.
