Accounting for retirements so they're only hiring 1,000 for growth over 5 years?

At 10 pilots/plane that’s 100 new airframes......sounds like a lot of new growth over 5 years to me.

VP of Flt Ops is an operational position, he may be part of the "administration, but I do not consider him part of upper management He has no say on the future fleet or routes. The current management said 1-2% fleet growth thru 2020 that jibes perfectly with the 2000/3000 statement.

Look I'm not saying everything is perfect by a long shot. I'm merely pointing out we are getting exactly what management told us in terms of fleet growth and furthermore there will be no "big" fleet announcements anytime soon. To me 1-2% growth is phenomenal in an industry where growth has often led to collapse because this time the company is not out loading up on new airframes that they'd be stuck with in a downturn. Instead we have a fleet like the 767 fleet that could be parked tomorrow at very little cost. I believe slow and steady wins the race, and I am glad we are not trying to grow to 20000 pilots in 5 years.

Latest 8-K filed today (available here: http://ir.united.com), 4Q YOY ASMs show a growth of 7.1% at mainline and 1.7% at the regional level.

This is a good thing.

This is a good thing.
The 7.1% is domestic mainline ASM growth for 4th qtr year over year, international is up 1.4%. RASM also grew about the same domestically but declined internationally.
Consolidated ASM’s up 4% for the quarter is better than forecast.

Default Interviews Are Occurring at DENTK

I'm just back from DEN and saw several nervous younger people in shiny new suits. I also spoke with a Capt who is there doing interviews for the entire week.

Somewhere somebody figured out bumping a whole lot of Instructors and mainly Check airmen was a dumb move. Lots of those bumped out going back on a schoolhouse bid that close the 18th.
