It just like checking a bag when non-reving. Go to counter and tell them you will be jumpseating and would like to check this bag. They will put a big stand-by tag on it and will not load the bag until you've been cleared. You will have a checked bag receipt that you can track your bag with on the Delta phone app.

I’ve done it. It was easy. No one cared. I accepted the risks of not making it. Of course I had also checked the loads on that particular flight prior to going.

I’m not sure why AWAX is so disgruntled over the idea.

If you're worried about stepping on toed grab some chocolate for the ticket counter agent. I've done this on UAL, DAL and AA. Not an issue. Have fun.

Yep, I've checked bags as a jumpseater many times, too. Went to the ticket counter, showed my ID and told them I was trying to jumpseat and wanted to check a bag. Never had a hassle or issue, even when checking firearms.

As has been said, if you're willing to accept the risk of having your bag make it if you don't, then it is a non-issue.

I'll skip the SSI concerns on an open forum, but dude, really?
How is it any different than listing with an ID90 and checking a bag?

About the only thing you know is you ask the CA for a ride. The rest you seem unfamiliar with.

I tried to do this recently at a major united hub for an international flight, check a bag and jumpseat. We can't list for the jumpseat on UA on myidtravel ahead of time, and the agents said I can only list for the jumpseat at the gate, not at the ticket counter, and I can't jumpseat with a checked bag. Obviously this is wrong, and it caused me to miss the flight.

Any actual guidance from UAL for this? They actually went as far as to say I'm not even supposed to jumpseat unless it's to go to work, can't be personal use. Very strange interaction for trying to OAL jumpseat on UA with a checked bag. Basically told me the only way to check it is at the gate and if you can't get the big bag through security it's your problem. Is there a workaround or solution for this?

They were wrong. You should have asked to talk to a supervisor. The policy is in wingtips, which doesn’t help you as an OAL, but outlines what the policy is for jumpseating to CSRs.

I had the same issue with UAL in HNL a few weeks ago. Ticket counter agent was insistent that I must have a reservation on myid to check a bag. I told her you cant make a reservation for the jumpseat at UAL as on offline jumpseater. Lots of round and round. Ended up having to pay to check it on my girlfriends reservation with a different airline.

As someone who operates to HNL a lot (777), this pains me to hear. They absolutely can list you at the counter and check your bag. If you are ever traveling with us again, bring your bag(as big as it might be) through security as most of our Hawaii flights are WB and we will accommodate onboard or walk it down and make sure it is loaded on the plane personally.

All I can say is I’m sorry about this. Customer service agent was completely clueless, but with an attitude…. We fought for one of the easiest JS experiences for OAL as possible by having no requirement to list online. This appears to be a weak spot in our process. Please file a report with your airline’s JS coordinator/committee so they can in turn report this to our JS committee through the proper channels. Our JS committee can address with the company promptly this way.
