Yes... a friend of mine got cancelled.

This is a foul. Three days prior? Really?? Not smart.

Agreed, I don’t have a class or even an interview but absorbing 30-40 newhires isn’t going to break United.

I'd buy inconvenient, inconsiderate, or unfortunate. But why is it not smart?

The company is idling nearly half the widebody fleet as air travel grinds to a halt and it's not smart to tap the brakes on manpower?

These are our newest pilots. Pretty sure they’ll remember this for the rest of their careers. We’ve got enough jaded people around here.

My airlineapps is set to renew in March and considering all of this I’m not even bothering to renew it, my time at this point has come and gone thankfully I’m already at a place I can retire from but this didn’t have to happen....

Along the lines of what PA Slammer posted.
I see a lot of ways to handle getting these folks in to Indoc and beyond at a relatively low cost to the company.

"Two weeks notice" is somewhat of a standard. Not required... I get it. And "two weeks notice" goes both ways, in my opinion. No need to remind me that "it's business, and a lot of us have been furloughed more than once...". I realize that.

Yes, bringing them in now incurs some potential costs. But these people left their previous jobs in good faith... some of them in just the last few weeks. The company could have earned a lot of loyalty with these 30 people by doing the right thing. United should have honored their commitment to start them on 3 March. It is a blown opportunity.
